Also, IMO, if you don't have the money for a mine at the time, then claim and sell it. No sense in going back later as there are so many sectors out there and many of them have these, so you'll always find more.
There are also a couple mods out there that can help in refinding claimed asteroids once you are back in the same sector. The one I've been using is Flight Sector Overview, but I hear there's another one simply by the name Sector Overview.
