I've never tried building custom fighters before, but from the conversation, I'll assume that the light trail the fighters leave behind stems from this root block, and what Raio experiences is that let's say you have an X-wing, and the root block turned out to be on one of the wing tips, so the trail comes out from there instead of the main engines, thus a "botched" root block (location).
Further more, if you have an issue where you dont like the current location of your root block, you can change it. Although it's not a simple solution, it is fairly simple to do and many times it's better than starting an entire build over from scratch. You place a block in the center of the rootblock and then making sure not to touch another block, build a bridge of blocks leading to the center of the block you wish the root block to be an attach the last block. Now go back to the current location of the root block and delete any block that it is currently touching (leaving of course the newly built bridge of blocks). Now turn off safe mode and delete the current root block, this transfers it to the block bridge you built. Now slowly delete each block until you reach the location of where you want the root block to be. Once you reach it turn back on safe mode and test it. Try to delete it and if wont let you, then you've sucessfuly moved it :)
Derpsuper++ hit the nail on the head. Fighter trails do infact stem from the rootblock's location, and yes, it was offcenter a few times. Another thing I noticed is this game also needs a way to 'choose' which block is used in a copy+pasta to PLACE it, I had to jury rig something on the build to place an engine pod I had made for it outside of the build and it wanted to place it via the far corner -.-
