NPC Factions At War
How does this work? Do they actually take over new territories / destroy bases/ build new bases?

Not totally sure. Most faction wars I've witnessed one side pretty much decimates the other NPC ships and then will go after the stations. I have seen some sectors with stations from more than one faction, though don't know if that was the result of a faction war.

The faction with the aggressive trait (always the instigator) will move in and take over conquered sectors while the the non aggressive factions will just wipe out a sector without moving in afterwards. rather stupid if you ask me as if the non aggressive factions wins the fight you're left with less stations to visit and if the aggressive ones win you end up with nothing but aggressive factions left and non stop war. (traits are seen in the diplomacy menu by hovering over the question mark next to a factions name)

It gets worse if a player wants to be a ♥♥♥♥ and basically destroys any or all stations in easier areas, such as research stations...

The game needs a built in mechanism to replace/build stations after control flips. It's not like the faction wouldn't build/rebuild their structures.

It would be even better if players can create their own 'stations' that actually has those functions, not simply as a 'station' for a base.

It would be nice to have modules you have to place on a station to give it that lv1-10 inventory, and maybe if players trades or basically buys your goods, you get a commission out of it.

To avoid having to 'create' items to sell, you could in theory do trade agreements with nearby faction merchants, allowing them to set up 'shop' in your station to sell their goods or services, with you getting a % out of it. This means players can prop up their own 'research' station with varying levels of 'chances' when other players uses it to gamble for better loot, giving the owner a commission each time they attempt it.

This would allow alliances or even individual players to create their own territories.

And due to the lack of 'tech' in low level territories, a lot of AI ships and stations can't protect themselves... They should ramp up ship 'security' levels in low level starting areas with more powerful ships that resides in 'high sec' sectors belonging to each faction.

Yes you can find mid-late game ships early on guarding their 'prime' sectors, and to avoid having them be able to be salvaged by pirates invading... High 'sec' areas never gets any invasion as they are guarded by mid-late game tech.

There's also the issue of AI ships using randomized 'seed' generation for their ships, which results in weird 'satellite' spaceships they use that are very EASY to destroy and flies very very slowly... In fact they don't even boost towards you...

I have seen factions doing battle. I have never seen one faction "take over" another sector. Ive never even seen a a raid or invasion ever be successful. They always lose, and stations have so much shielding and health... they are practically invincible.
