What happens to a ship when a player leaves the game in coop/dedicated online?
So I played the demo with one other player who direct connected to me, did our thing and tested all the stuff out. I logged back on in singleplayer later the next day and saw his ship just floating in space empty, but owned by him. It got shot up by space pirates a little bit but didn't die, but this got me thinking...

Is there any way to "store" or hide player ships when they aren't present on the server, or logged into a world directly? Is there any safe haven so that if my friends play via direct connect, or a hosted server, that I can have them park without fear of their creation dying when they log off?

This is really my only concern for the game in multiplayer, maybe that and trading though I did see that is on the wiki as a possible upcoming feature.

Right now they will remain right where they are. As you said we want to introduce safe sectors where you can log out in peace without having to worry about pirates. The closest thing to that right now would be a sector with lots of AI ships that will attack incoming pirates.

Considering trading: Not yet in but an absolute must (you're talking about trading items between players?).

Yeah trading maybe items, ores or credits. Since I suppose you could just dump cargo for a friend already in the game. Thanks for the response!
It would be cool to someday maybe be able to make a station big enough to store your own ships inside sort of like eve style.

I could see it getting expanded further where players could dock to another players ship and just stay idle inside while they explore the galaxy together in one big Super Carrier hehe.

Couldn't you build a ship that's basically a weapon platform (just guns and energy), crew it, order it to guard position and park next to it when you log out?

Another idea would be maybe to create a large station with a hanger (pretend) hanger to park the ship in overnight.

Yeah I was hoping maybe some form of a station hangar to deposit a ship ( maybe destroying the ship if the station/hangar dies? )

There still needs to be something on a server for at least the PvP side I feel like, because a ship just going "poof" because someone logged off is pretty damn cheesy.

Just wondering if a ship owned by a player is in an empty zone ( warped into empty space, no pirates ) and they log off in that area is there even a possibility that they'd be attacked in the simulated empty zone or are they good? I was just planning on having my friends go to a zone in coop and "hide" there.

Also makes me think about auto-turrets, do they work if there is no pilot and its a "manned ship" or would a turret with a ton of automated turrets, under attack, with a player absent... defend itself?
To be honest your core block is 500 iron? IDK if it costs credits. But you could just delete your ship get the resources / credits back from it so everything but the core block and then login and rebuild almost instantly.

When it comes to this sort of mechanic you can easily bypass and exploit the process.

I would love some sort of hanger storage though but I don't think this game as also geared for PvP it has the option of PvP but I think it was mostly geared for Co-Op online play.

I'm pretty sure they will they are simulated when the zone is loaded so yes they should. As long you hired a captain.

still would have to find a way to pay them so they don't leave me lol. if you don't pay them does the salary due increase over time? or do they just up and leave after awhile?

Not sure what happens at that point. You can auto pay them btw but of course you need the cash ;) You could have some of the go around and mine too but you still need to sell the materials. Right now you can't like have ai trading I guess with your own captains or maybe I'm blind.
