There is a box you can check and uncheck on the left-hand side menu in build mode.

Doesn't seem to work in tutorial mode, works as intended I guess?

Tutorial may purposely disable your ability to disable safe mode, but in general, yeah, on the left hand side you'll see an icon that looks like a pad lock. That's your safe mode toggle.
