go to the %appdata%/roaming/avorion/galaxies/<galaxy name>
edit the server.ini and you can change the settings there including difficulty.

Every data edit can break your game. Thats how the world works. But as long as you only change the difficulty number and dont accidently delete something, it is fine.
I did it, and it worked.

just make a backup and then edit, i assure you ir will not break the game, not just by changing the difficulty

Yeah, make a backup of your save folger in appdata. I do that every night before shutting down my PC, so an error doesnt force me to start completly new.

The game is very easily editable, because everything is accessable by simply using a texteditor. So, as long as you dont do writing errors, you can change anything in the game :D So far, I didnt have any errors. We should make a collection thread of working edits :D (I for example edited the minimum range a ship needs to trade with a station)

You dont.
You backup your game, edit and then test if it still works. Even if you download a full working mod for a game, thats what the modder had to do in the first place.

If you are familiar with .lua coding can you have a look into the weapon´s range i looking for days now to find out how to edit the range of mining lasers i found no var or something to change that. Just in the turretfactory.lua with the invest factor stuff wich increases the range but just on the tooltip the Fx stops on 0.75 km if you play around with that and only does damage at this range. I think is somethig tied up with the maths and the FX but i never done programming or scripting before.

Sry, I am a noob to that, just like you :D I learned c++ and phyton in my IT education but never really got into it.

As soon as I start up my own Server the next days, I will try read into all scripts. The low range problem annoys me too.
