how do you use console commands in single player?
So I logged out the other day, signed back in to see my ship destroyed and setting in my drone even though I signed out with my ship and with no hostiles in the sector. I also lost all my resources and credits somehow so I was wondering If I can use console commands to get my stuff back?

I've tried /give Nick Peterson arg -iron arg 30000 arg and /give Nick Peterson iron 30000 but neither work, saying either my name or "iron" isn't recognized. Am I being stupid? I myself admin too lol

Is there a way to change my in game name as well?

You've misunderstood the syntax.

-p is the player name. You don't type "arg", that's where you substitute the data.
-g is the type of good. -a is the amount. So the whole statement is:

/give -p Nick Peterson -g Iron -a 30000

Figured it out. If your name contains spaces, put Quotation marks around your name. For example:

/give -p "Nick Peterson" -g Iron -a 30000

You don't have to type the -g and the -a:

/give "Lazarus Long" 1000 iron

Works just fine. You only need the quotes around your name if it has spaces in it.
