Renaming ships?

I didn't think I would get very far on my second run... so I named my first ship "boop". Now I have a full fleet with Boop as the flagship. Any way to rename ships?

Once you name a ship, thats it. There is no way in the game, so far, that supports the renaming of a ship other than copy pasting the ship from your build menu.

Oh man. I hope they change this so you can rename it, would be important if you want to make a ship do a specific role later and want to add (miner) after its name etc.

Yes, I agree. Given the ability to change design dramatically it would be very useful to be able to change name of "main" to reflect current build and purpose. I note you can change name of saved ship designs in the game folder ie. system file rename but this does not affect primary ship...

Even worse if you name your ship Monster, then create Guard and two Gold Mines. Guess what happens when you enter the game - you are sometimes teleported to that Gold Mine, probably because it is first in alphabetical order. Even better when pirates are attacking the other mine where your ships are and you have to escape to drone to travel there, hoping it won't be too late.

Wow, way to pull an old thread out for the depths, Also, That's why I jump to other ships of mine when opening??? because it looks at ship names aphlabetically? that makes a lot of sense as to why I'm sometimes jumped into first ship, "Boop"

Rename Ships... or at least imagine to rename them.

save their build template.

set a founder block and name it how you want it.

deconstruct your ship but leave enough living quarters for your crew.

copy the build plan over the founder block.

transfer the crew and everything else.

finally remove all leftover blocks from your former ship.

finished.

There has to be a better way then just rebuilding the ship.

I've checked the location and I don't see a way to rename a ship. Do I need to be docked somewhere, like a shipyard, to rename the ship?

get to your ship list and keep an eye open for that little pencil icons on the left side (where ships picture is)

or

check the stat screen of your ship (where you can assign turrets) also have an eye open for the little pencil icons

You can edit
The ships name
The ships class
and assign a little icon if needed
