Im glad its egosoft balancing this thing and not the community... because a precedent is being set today, and if that precedent was DLC ship = OP, well that would be AWFUL. They already went that route with things like the Yasur. I'm glad this is filling a niche in the way it is.

Do you want it to do more damage than destroyers?
And M ships could always be built to have crazy damage, this isnt new.

I got the DLC, i haven't got a lot of time to put the ship through its paces but the extra sector and other bits from 7.5 patch has been a welcome addition.

I'd love to see what it can do when i get the hang of these new flight mechanics and how effective it can be in battle. The Rattlesnake sort of set the bar on frigate-light destroyer type ship with its raw firepower. Hopefully the Hyperion doesn't disappoint.

The shrillness in the Omanckaslat's deep voice that approaches something wooden in acting terms is something i don't like much though.

Also the objective to await the Hyperion to arrive at the destination somewhere in Paranid space be it HOP, PAR or player chosen from the civil war arc, that needs to be amended from "Await" to "Travel to and await", otherwise if you take it literally, you are just sitting there waiting and then get the order afterwards to travel to the Hyperion's new location, which is even more time used up.

White Star will obliterate Hyperion. White Star's were hybrid Minbari- Vorlon tech, single White Star brings more firepower than Omega Class Destroyer, they were close to Sharlin Heavy Cruiser in raw firepower and they have better living crystalline armor, somewhat close to Vorlon ships. They were Shadow BattleCrab hunters.

Agreed.

I was afraid the ship would be stupidly uber. The fact it isn't the ship to `kill all ships` is a good thing. Also people tend to `figure` out something from literally using it for 5 minutes. Often it takes TIME to LEARN a ship and how to use it at its best... not 10 seconds. You don't jump in a fast car and win a race instantly... you need to learn it.

I will buy the DLC... when GOG finally decides to host it.

But the Hyperion isn't a destroyer. It's smaller and more agile, filling a different role in the battlespace. It's evident Egosoft doesn't want any ship that is flat-out better than anything else in its class and role along every axis, because that removes the element of choice. Why would you use a Foo-class ship when a Bar-class outperforms it under any conceivable circumstances?
I think:

- egosoft wanted to make a "light destroyer"
- but there is just no use case for this kind of ship in the game (if in doubt, slap rattlesnake on problem until problem gone (or syn, osaka etc.))

Like, the Xenon H also is one... but that one can at least shred my S ships OOS when I am not looking. (its bad, real bad, if one of those Hs gets there without you noticing xD)

Here is how I would fix this thing:

- give it 10km range, like paranids usually have
- keep weapon damage as it is (the higher range makes it excusable that its a peashooter)
- that will keep the advantage against M ships too
- add 2 L turrets (one on top, one on bottom)

Oh, and remove the "designed for devastating offensive capabilities" from the store page, its simply untrue. It doesnt even remotely come close to the damage potential of Syn/Rattler to justify that phrase.

Doubt that egosoft had that in mind when making the hyperion - it could have easily had 4 L turrets on top of the current M turrets and it would still be worse than a Syn, or rattler.

It feels like a M+ to me when flying in it. Its fast, its agile.
Its classified as a exploration ship not a destroyer.
It has not the firepower to destroy a K (well it does but it takes ages)
It eats M class enemies for breakfast with its forward guns, a range of 7,2 Km and 8 turrets. It can repair docked ships. Which is very nice.
It has a build in workbench.
It has a bit of Storage space (almost as much as a M Class Freighter).
It has a large capacity for deployables
It has a large crew capacity
So I think its quite versatile and could be used for many different tasks except for direct attacks on destroyers and stations.

I like it :-)
Still trying to find a use-case for it, aside from "killing the occasional M ship", for fun.

But for that job, a Split Dragon will do just fine, or a Cobra - which also got a dock xD (and can Kill a K faster than the Hyperion)

hyperion is really awkward to me - its not "bad", but its weird that I have to "run away" from a K in it, while I just shred it in a Dragon.

I like it :-)

reads like a command and control ship. Not something that can be lead directly into the vanguard of a fleet engagement, but it can be called up as a reinforcement if needed.

Where are the PBG's when you need them! xD
