The backgrounds are textures, download the 4K texture mod and that will improve slightly. But I'm not a miracle worker.

Also you're comparing the patched version of this game (includes most of my work) to the unpatched + modded version. Texture mods and performance fixes are the only major advantages to using the mod at this point. Most of the stuff I originally did is now patched directly into the game.

I am not insutling your work at all in any way or complaining in the least. I imagine when the game was released the difference was immense between your fixed version and the game. I just realized from reading the threads they have put most of the fixes in the game through patches. That is probably thanks to you and most likely alll they did to the game is what you had already done.. people do appreciate your work on these games. I also have your Zestiria fix..

I like to think I made an improvement on image quality, but by no means did I accomplish anything mindblowing here. The upscaled textures are a technical achievement for the amount of data streamed, but they only offer a marginal improvement in quality.

I really wish the engine didn't work the way that it does. These background textures are pre-baked, meaning that each room might share similar materials but you can't simply replace a wood texture in-game and have it apply everywhere :( You have to use the game's original tools (which Bandai Namco might not even have), and then re-bake the textures for each room.

It's a design modern games don't use, but one that's completely understandable given the memory constraints of the GameCube / PS2.

Hi, I've just discovered your mod and wanted to try it out. So I installed the 0.10.5 version and when I launch the game it gets stuck on the "Initialize HeapManager.". After some research on the net I still haven't found the cause, so do you have any clue ?

Some details about my installation:
  • I'm on Windows 8.1.
  • With the last version of the game.
  • I use x360ce with Mayflash 4 port adapter for the official Wii U GCN adapter.

Something is odd here. Are you SURE you are using Windows 8.1? The log says your system doesn't support D3D 11.1. That's in no way relevant to this game, but should be supported by a Windows 8.1 system.

Are your drivers up to date and are you using any third-party software aside from x360ce? Maybe something like MSI Afterburner or EVGA PrecisionX?

I am on Windows 8.1 professional and I don't use MSI Afterburner nor EVGA PrecisionX.
But I will update my NVIDIA drivers and try again.

First off thanks for all the hardwork.

I do have some questions. Once I installed the patch I seemed to have no Anti Alasing options or anything options other than resolution in the game and secondly while running at 60fps everything seems way way faster than its actually supposed to be. How do I change any of the settings that arent in the games menu?

Why would you run the game at 60 FPS? Of course it's going to do that :)

The anti-aliasing options are in the INI file.


Refer to the Configuration (Render) section for details on both of these things. The only time you'd use an alternate framerate is if you want to speed or slow time down. Some people do this to get through the game faster, so the option's there.

I didnt choose 60 fps it default to this once I used the patcher... Just like it removed MSAA and anti alasing from the menu once I installed the patch. :S

About MSAA, the mod is using an older version of the game's executable, you can set a much better MSAA than the one that comes in the game through the mod's configuration files, tsfix.ini (set the line MSAA_Samples to 4 or 8).
Framerate wise, I guess set Foreground FPS and Background FPS to 30.0, though they're supposed to be 30 by default.

EDIT: CRC error is due to lack of space maybe?

Also I'm getting a CRC error on the 4K DLC when it's in the BUILD stage,

Keep doing it, the DLC installer will delete the corrupted files and re-download them. I guess it's a good thing this is a three-part download :P That'd be a 5 GiB re-download if not for that.

Hi, thanks for the fantastic mod. I just bought this game due to its insane discount.

I encountered a problem though. Everytime i enabled the PS3 buttons mod, the game would load into the title screen and then just crash and auto-shut off shortly after. Won't have such problem when the PS3 buttons mod is disable.

Any idea why ? Thanks

With the last version of the fix, the game runs "too fast" is there a way to set it to normal speed? I tried changing the seting in tsfix Like this:

I thought that changing the FrameRate values i could get the fos i disere, but the game plays the same as always, ignoring my changes. Can somebody help me? The file i'm momdifying is tsfix.ini.
