What is Khimari good for? (In before Absolutely Nothing)
1. I think all his Overdrives might be too weak, or not even on par with the other characters... and the boon of getting instant Overdrive disappears as you learn all the Blue Magic

2. Combat is very specialist based - Auron Armour Piercing, Wakka Accuracy, Lulu Magic, Yuna healing/based nuking/nulblaze for bombs. (Rikku can steal and counts as a generalist, but counters machines). This makes generalization (all Khimari gets normally) weaker overall

However, he can pick up all the starting skills easily, especially on the Expert Grid - this gets him the Tier 1 magic, Tier 1 Null, Dark Attack and a slew of other early goodies.... making him good at doubling-down on simple techniques. He's a Red Mage/Blue Mage.

So, as is Tidus and Khimari don't fill any dedicated roles... but Tidus has better stats and FLEE (best ability)

...

I don't want to be Ronso-Racist, especially since the Expert Grid opens up so many options.

He's sadly an inside joke with me and friends for being pretty much useless. He's meant to be a jack-of-all-trades, but ultimately it makes him a "master of none".

The best use I had for him was recommended to me years ago: using his Self Destruct for easy wins in the Monster Arena.

So yeah, he's basically at his most usefulness when he's blowing himself up.

Ya, he's an inside joke here as well... especially since we love Red Mage, but Khimari can't

Honestly, I thought Khimari was useless too. But then I sent him down Rikku's grid path and realized just how many Str ups she actually gets early in her grid. Between steal/use and the rapid Str/Spd gain, Khimari became one of my best damage dealers.

Honestly, I love Khimari. I can't wait for the game to finish installing so I can play him again.

His best feature for me on the Expert Grid is defintely being able to have a second caster of the Null spells. However, all the combat in the game is specialist based - and there's no shared XP.

Yuna and Khimari end up being a lower level since their unique situation is rarer (and non-existant in Khimari's case) I remember a few playthroughs where he hadn't gained a single AP from mi'hen highroad until Mt. Gagazet.

On standard sphere grid, i always send him to rikku's path to learn steal and use, making him a weaker version of riku.

multiple play throughs over the years and hes been useless in every one, probably the least used out of all the characters.

Back years ago on PS2, while playing with a friend, I accidently hit Kimahri with Wakka's T.K.O. (Stonetouch) before Djose Temple. Apparently it technically does physical damage simulatenously, since we both watched Kimahri petrified and shattered before our eyes. We burst out laughing and decided it would become a routine thing any time he was switched into the formation.

Also, I hope that was an 8-bit Theater reference, because <3.

I found him to be very useful as a secondary quick hitter, or mage. And since you mentioned flee, I almost never use it, waste of exp and gil in my opinion.
Ryrin May 13, 2016 @ 10:16pm
Some of his overdrives are okay. Not enough to make him worth using. People bring up White Wind, but Rikku has much better restorative/buff overdrives.

Honestly, Lulu isn't even that good for magic. It just happens to be her path. If you take the time to get some of the Black Magic spells for Yuna, she'll blow Lulu's damage out of the water. Her level 2 magic is stronger than Lulu's level 3.

Yuna is admittedly a beast black mage.

He's kinda useful early in the game. It's like a character for lazy or noob players. At the end of the game, no point to use this guy.
Monterossa May 13, 2016 @ 11:31pm
Character tiers:
Top: Tidus, Yuna, Rikku, Wakka - If you want to do endgame content, stick with these four and learn how to use Rikku's overdrives.
Mid: Auron, Kimahri
Trash: Lulu - Her attack animation sucks balls. Her overdrives suck both Wakka's balls.

Hmm.....

This is interesting.

Well, he just learned Self Destruct so we'll see how it goes once I get to Monster Arena. Thanks for the tip.
