FFX-2 has a New Game+ mode, but it's the same, no added difficulty (in fact it's a lot easier since you keep all your equipment).
I sincerely WISH there was a hard mode for either game. :(
Oh man, that's a shame :/ I wanted to re-play FFX so I could try using different characters like Rikku (I underestimated her, didn't use her until the final boss and then discovered that she's AWESOME). Maybe I'll play again, since I skipped all the Dark Aeons and other optional bosses + celestials.
Editing characters and the Sphere Grid isn't too hard for a naive user, but what's really missing is a comprehensive way of changing enemies. You can edit them in battle, every battle, but that's ridiculously tedious. I just wish there at least was some way to globally employ some sort of stat modifier or whatever...
An ACTUAL difficulty mode with AI changes and so on is probably a pipe dream for now.
All it does is randomizing the whole sphere grid though, the charakters will start with the same stats. Still a lot of fun.
Randomizing the Sphere Grid could become very weird, I imagine.
I started with my own personal SG configuration, but it's so much work I stopped about a third or so in. Maybe I'll find the time and will to do it over the summer, but it really is just another stopgap measure. What would be needed would really be fundamental mechanical and scripting changes.
Fair enough. I skipped the Dark Aeons, penance, yojimbo, anima and haven't touched monster arena. Guess I missed out on tons of content, I'll give FFX another go
Wish there was just a mod that was, like, enemy HP*4 and STR/MAG/DEF/MDEF +25 or something. Not sure about the values, a % increase to stats could get out of hand quickly because of non-linear scaling. And you definitely don't want ALL stats increased, because enemies with crazy LCK and AGI will just annihilate you.
So, the only way to make the game "hard mode" is to basically play badly and never use the right characters. lol. Go Auron! hit that flying thing!
Then you give Yuna Black magic and suddenly, Lulu becomes a character you never see again.
If there was an actual hard mode, outside of the monster arena where you end up watching 10 hours of death animations, That'd be awesome.
I wonder if its because they wanted it more for the story, and left that since you get random encounters so often, people would prefer to just one shot literately everything with only a slight amount of grind... and then you use the expert sphere grid and realise just how much easier that the game becomes. Its funny that standard grids make the game harder.
I'm all for a hard mode! Bring it!
Why not? I used him with Auron's path on expert grid and he was great
