So, you want to know why some of us hate english dubs in japanese games right? ( especially rpgs )
https://youtu.be/x-wIFB_mmW4?t=142

Doesn't mean that i am against both tracks in every release, but the good thing is it would be way easier to make a pc *undub* than a console one.

99% of English dubs are better than that. Most people who insist on Japanese voices when they themselves can't speak it and aren't trying to secretly think themselves more cool because of their insistence on experiencing the original. That's fine. Just stop saying most English dubs are bad when the opposite is true.

Psycho Pass and Assassination classroom for example. Excellently done voice work for the English dubs.

probably because anime importers like Funimation and Sentai Works actually spends money on quality voice actors for their work...

game publishers usually try to spend as little as possible like voice acting and QA since most of the budget is spent on actual game production...

Funny story funimation is actually just translating anime and simlacasting them or putting them on a slight delay for english release. Crunchy Roll and Hulu mainly. Of course I just download them from horriblesubs but thats besides the point.

Pff stop saying that liking original voices is wrong if you don't speak the language... Maybe it is FOR YOU.... That's the point of the subs... Some people don't mind "reading" even if you do, bear with it. I can follow subs (in English even if I'm Belgian) without even thinking about it...

Ps : I find every "good dub" you're posting here.... horrible. It's just a matter of preference, no matter what you say, some people will always prefer the original.

You think DBZ dubs are better because you've probably watched it with dubs as a kid... Even for me, it's the only French dub I can watch because of this. It's called "nostalgy".It's not related to dub quality...

No, I honestly like the English Dub little more than the original. I grew up watching Japanese DB and DBZ since child and I started watching English DBZ as well, after coming to US. There are just some series that Dub works can match the characters quite well. With that said, I give Dub much more credit now than I used to, even though they can only be equal to the original at best in my preference.

The DBZ dubs are just horrible period. The only english dbz dub worth watching is the abridged series.

Again, all up to the individual's preference. I'm okay with the DBZ dubs. I occasionally watch it alternating for sake of the original dialogue.

Ahaha. True that. Not to mention Sean Schemmel made a huge improvement over time. Can be heard in Kai.

While in a lot of cases i do prefer the original Japanese dub when watching anime. It is largly who is responislbe for the English dub and the voice actiors involved.
There are quite a few series' which i actually like the English dub more than the Japanese dub. and that's all the voice actors. Of course it might also be that the devs drop the ball with that long awkward pause in character coverstations.

I wonder why companies keep wasting money dubing games if they know 90% of players are weebos that prefer Japanese anyway.

Except it's nowhere near that high. It's just a small group (maybe a few percent) of haters who want to ruin it for everyone else. Most RPG's wouldn't sell as well in the US if they were Japanese audio only. As others said before, it's about hearing it in the native language you speak. If someone doesn't speak/understand English or Japanese then it probably doesn't matter to them.

And I love subtitles even for things that are made in America and English-Only dialogue. When I watch shows I use the subtitles if available. It annoys me when a game doesn't have subtitles turned on by default. It annoys me even more when there's no subs at all.

As far as anime' I watch them in English first if available as it's my native language, then if I really like the show I'll watch it again in Japanese like I did with Death Note and Fruits Basket. There's only been one modern anime I couldn't watch in English and that was, as someone else mentioned, the Naruto dubs where he said "believe it!" every other sentence.

In fact I never knew why people hated dubs so much until I was watching Ranma 1/2 on HULU in Japanese and then I saw the next episode I was going to watch had it in English. Ranma 1/2 is old and during the times when dubs were terrible. It has to be the single worst dub I've ever heard EVER. Needless to say, I didn't watch any other episodes of Ranma 1/2 in English.

Your random numbers vs his random numbers...The truth is that no one knows "real numbers", it's speculation.

And I think it's obvious than globaly (the entire world, not only english speaking countries) people do prefer original (Japanese) dub for anime and games instead of English dub

Evidence ? English is not spoken in the majority of the planet. Maybe some people like dubs in their language but we are speaking about English dubs aren't we ?

Actually english is the "international de facto" language. English is my 3rd language but it's easy to pick-up quickly we're all so exposed to it - Hollywood & Music come to mind. Most ot the world will transact in -broken- english as well. Not perfectly and you won't discuss poetry but the thing is, you CAN communicate.

I think each has their own preference. I played Tales of Xillia for example and enjoyed the english dub but a lot of anime I only watch the original japanese voice track subbed because listening to the english dub grates me most of the time or feels "off". Maybe because my first forays into the medium at the end of the 90's were all subbed.

So in that sense, i'm not a purist either way for a game or anime dub but I most often prefer the original work. (i.e. for movies.... dubs are... scary. Watch The Joker's dub of the Dark Knight in french and spanish for kicks :) ).

As stated previously though, to each their own. :)
