[Special K] Improved Framegen, Cutscene FPS Unlock and Other Fixes - [Updated April 16th, 2025]
Introduction

Problem Description and Work in Progress
I have updated Special K for this game with a number of fixes for Anvil Next's broken NVIDIA Reflex integration (higher latency Framegen than should be), mysteriously vanishing DLSS options, aspect ratio fixes, and framerate uncap (with correct cloth physics).
These changes are included as of 25.4.16 (currently the latest TEST release), which you can find on our Discord server[discord.gg] in the #nightly-builds, or can be downloaded directly from our website[special-k.info]:

Features
  • Black bar removal in (real-time) cutscenes
  • Unlocked (real-time) cutscene framerate
  • Frame generation in (real-time) cutscenes
  • Improved frame generation pacing
  • Increased FOV range

Download and Install
    Installer (first-time users)

Portable Upgrade (replace SpecialK64.dll from an existing install)

Miscellaneous:
  • Frame generation during FMV cutscenes is disabled, but real-time cutscenes support it.
  • It has been tested working on Epic Games Store, Steam, Ubisoft Connect and Ubisoft+ (in other words, works with all versions of the game).

Please visit our Discord server for help, Ubisoft likes to ban me whenever I fix one of their games (rofl), so it really isn't ideal to communicate here.

Thanks for that update.

Can say for me it works with the Ubisoft+ Membership version flawlessly in cutscenes.

EDIT:
well it did at first, now its back to 31fps :D

Special K never disappoints. It made frame generation run perfectly in Avowed.

don't use it, please.

Firstly, Special K will reduce your framerate roughly by 15-20 %.

Secondly, you will experience insane clothing physics glitches which will take away any immersion.

Wait for proper fixes.

Reflex will, I think you mean to say? And it's more like 5 FPS. SK and Reflex both use the same equation to calculate VRR framerate limit.

    Refresh Rate - (Refresh Rate * RefreshRate) / 3600.0

Standard stuff, all correctly functioning implementations of Reflex will do this.

Might as well refund the game, because those fixes are not coming. The devs on Anvil Next are not competent enough to even read the NVIDIA Streamline documentation to correctly integrate Reflex or Frame Generation.

Their colleagues on the Snowdrop engine integrated Reflex for Starwars Outlaws with only minor hiccups (I fixed that game also).

Thought i'd give this a go, not that cutscene framerates are bothering me, just that i thought it might fix the DLSS disappearing randomly thing.

Ran the game from special K and lo and behold, both dlss and dlss framegen were suddenly there (first time after about 20 load ups) -

i thought it was fixed..but no, they were both gone again after loading it again right after.

Ah well.

Just to clarify before i purchase, does this Unlock cutscene FPS or just apply framegen to the 30fps?

Unlocks cutscenes.

Framegen can be applied on top of the unlocked cutscene framerate as an additional option.

The game doesn't do that normally, so you probably need to enable framegen on the cutscenes to get the same framerate in cutscenes as during gameplay -- entirely down to your GPU horsepower, nothing to do with an artificial 30/60 FPS cap.

How does one do that within Special K ? I've found once i force framegen within it and restart, it once again disappears DLSS, but adds back framegen..then all DLSS stuff from special k is missing as well

That doesn't sound right...
What version are you running?

25.3.21.4 is the latest.

yes that one
I'm using 25.3.21.5 (just downloaded it).
I have Assassin here, on Steam.
I disabled RTSS (set Application Detection Level to None).
I launch the game via SpecialK, selecting it in the list of games.
When the game starts, I go to the SpecialK menu, in the Assassin Creed Shadows section I enable the mode with fps unlocking in cutscenes and enable the MFG 4X mode for the framegenerator (I have 5090).

However, for some time the game runs normally (a few minutes), but then the character just stops controlling and runs even though I don't press anything, and then the game freezes.

Sounds like a Steam Input problem. The game uses native libScePad, so make sure Steam Input is disabled.

Also, re-download and reset your config for the game. I enabled Flip Metering by default, but needs an SK config reset (right-click SpecialK.ini in SKIF and select "Reset Config").

Can you provide SpecialK.log? Easier to handle this in Discord in the #support channel.
The game and it's graphical settings with its upscaling is an absolute mess. One minute framegeneration works, then it doesn't mid scene, go to map menu, framerate comes back, no matter if using DLSS / FSR or whatever, when they actually appear or work at all. As i'm running around it can go from 120fps down to 30, call up map and the frames return when i go back. A few seconds later it happens again. Turning graphical settings down or off does nothing to alleviate this. Turning off upscaling altogether improves nothing.

This is Outlaws all over again, having to wait 2 months for ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ patches.
