In normal game mode you will see heart icons when you meet a romanceable character for dialogue options that start the romance. Just don't pick those. Both Naoe or Yasuke are as gay or bi or hetero or asexual as you want them to be.
but put some thought/research into whether you want to do canon mode or not, the gameplay experience is somewhat different.
Man that is LAME AF. Ubisoft seriously lacks the balls to implement something actually interesting. I still remember how delighted and surprised I was to witness an actual sex cutscene in the first Dragon Age way back in 2010. Was not expecting that at all, so many new ideas that just worked.
so if anything then this romance / relation-ship-things are not "trash" as you tell them but funny little side-events. even if you don't want to see men kissing or something. do this little side missions and have fun
I got some news for you:
Playing this game neither makes you a Samurai nor Shinobi, nor lesbian or gay or whatever - it is just a video game.
Of course I can separate myself from the character. I mean I play as Naoe and don't consider myself to be a Japanese girl....
