On PC everything works fine. on deck not.
Doesnt give me the "launching / installing ubisoft conenct" message, i got on pc....
like this i wonder what "verified" even mean for this game :-D *i know it run properly befor*
(also I’m typing this on my iPhone kb and it sucks ass, probably cause hands have gotten bigger and outgrown it or some ♥♥♥♥ idk)
step 1 - Enter desktop mode, search for protontricks (with no space in between), and install it
step 2 - boot up protontricks (it’ll be sitting in the “Utilities” tab in the deck start menu or launch it through the discover app store from it’s store page, the button is on top right corner) and it’ll greet you with which game to install protontricks with, in this case just select AC Shadows from list and press ok
step 3 - from the list of options, select “install a application”
step 4 - scroll to the bottom until you see “ubisoftconnect”, select it, and click ok
step 5 - It’ll take a bit to show, but a install window will pop up for Ubi connect, the same way you’d install install any application or launcher like Ubisoft
step 6 - Repeat until step 2, but this time select “Run explorer”
step 7 - click on the “Desktop” file and press left trigger (if don’t have a mouse connected through bluetooth) or right click (if you have a mouse connected) then click “open”
step 8 - you don’t have to sign in (you can’t anyway without bt a connected K&M), simply just wait until you see the sign in screen and close Ubi connect and the game should launch normally (but not without logging into Ubisoft)
This’ll probably fix some games not launching along with other ubi games that don’t have the green check mark, but since I’ve only just discovered this today, I haven’t tested this with other games that require logging into an account via a launcher.
I was trying find a way to fix this until I found this video (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UTvhdXnXhJw) and thought it could work with the “game doesn’t launch after clicking play on steam” from the game’s pcgamingwiki page
If weren’t for this amazing website, there’d be no way I’d be able to tolerate these various broken games nowadays. I hope this fix helps for anyone having to deal with this frankly frustrating problem
also, if you’re wondering where my pfp is from, it’s Conan Edogawa from Detective Conan (or Case Closed in America). Very entertaining anime imho
it’s basically operates like a app that clears any shader cache and combatibilty files (should you have any issues that stem from those two file locations doing some weird ♥♥♥♥ behind the scenes). It’s especially helpful for this game (or any game that has this behavior) since it starts to use more and more VRAM as you play (depending how long your session is) and clearing the combatibilty data will bring the VRAM usage back down, usually down to 5-6 (although you will have to sign into ubi connect again every time after that, so bear that in mind ig).
these are probably good steps, but way to complicated for a game which tells me it is "verified". devs ****ed something up with the latest patch for the deck users. tehy have to fix this. not me :-D if it isnt some checkbox in the steam os setting, then the devs should do the labour. but really.. thank you for the digging and working on that.
Either way I have been playing AC Shadow on Steamdeck since release to recent patch (1.03) and it's working without any problem. I have lcd version and using CryoUtilities. Also I play AC shadow without tinkering anything (no forcing compability) except limiting to 40 fps.
So I guess it should work other deck too right?
That's a good point, I was wondering about why seeing as I've been playing AC:S on my Steam deck pretty much daily since it came out and haven't had any issues whatsoever...though if they're using Ubisoft+ or whatever that is and needing a different launcher I could see how that wouldn't be as "out of the box" as it is on Steam itself, as...again...I have had absolutely no issues other than the very very very occasional crash (I think maybe twice?)
but in my case, i bought it on steam. installed it yesterday and stuck at the "missing ubisoft connect" on startup.
And since you already have the startup-programm of installing ubisoft connect with your steam version run, you wouldn't run in this problem i guess. only new installs on the deck.
i bet, if you deinstalled AC:S and every other ubisoft game with it from your deck, you would run into the same problem.
I asked for a refund yesterday because it was frustrating me so much 😅 will try buying on sale in the future and hopefully a fix or patch will correct the issue
