Freighter hyperdrive upgrades in NEXT?
Hey there explorers!

I bought my freighter in Atlas Rises and even without any upgrades for the hyperdrive the warp jump range was great, so great in fact that I completely stopped using my starship to travel between solar systems.

But with the NEXT update they got rid of that amazing jump range and it's now only 130 LY. I can clearly see that there are 3 slots for 3 upgrades to the freighter's hyperdrive but.... I have no idea where to buy them.

I've searched all the vendors on new space stations and no luck - only hyper upgrades for starships.

Please, if anyone knows how to upgrade the drive in NEXT, that would be awesome!

Cheers!

Don't quote me, but I think the starship upgrades that boost Warpcell effeciency and Range work on the freighter. Talk to the middle nanite vendor at a station. You need to buy the upgrades, not the blueprints. Warpdrive blueprints ONLY effect what color system you can jump to, which freighters are able to jump to any system by default. Hope that helps!

Nope, tried that myself yesterday. Bought a hyperdrive upgrade A class and tried to install it on a freighter - got a message saying it's not compatible with this slot.

I know freighters can go to any class of star system, it's just that I had like around 700 LY of jump range and now I have 130 so that's a huge problem.

Welp that was my idea. Yeah my starship is near as makes no difference 600LY, while my freighter is 98LY.. sooo. Gonna stay subbed to this, if you find anything please post!

Of course, if I find something I'll let everyone know here. I also asked on NMS reddit but as of now to no avail.

Anyway, another idea: maybe in economically rich systems the upgrade shopkeep will have them?

Same issue... thread needs to stay hot we need answers! In the tech menu, the drive upgrades clearly exist... problem is finding them.

So while I havent found a fix, I did find the cause. It seems that since NEXT freighters have the same base jump range (before modifiers/bonuses) as starships. Since freighters don't get the ship class bonuses, and their rarity bonus is smaller, the end result is freighters without any tech upgrades have an exceedingly low range compared to pre NEXT freighters. This may be fixable with a simple mod.

If you go to guide->technology in the pause menu, there's 4 black spots which appear to be silhouettes of the freighter warp drive. This leads me to believe that tech upgrades exist. Why wouldn't they?

I was assuming they do exist, so I'm not sure what you mean?

They appear nonexistent since they aren't sold by tech people. I wonder if HG put them as rare drops in freighter crash site loot tables.

Ah I see, I thought you where pointing the question at me. My bad. Anyway, I am presuming that if they arent bugged or otherwise unavailable then they are probably in any one or all of the rare loot tables. Freighter missions, crash crate drops, manufacturing facilities, ect.

I'm gonna go to a thriving system today and see if they sell such upgrades. Maybe the upgrades and blueprints sold on stations vary from one economy to the other.

Ok, going to a rich system changes nothing. Had to find another way. Sent a support request to HG, although I'm not sure they'd respond to this.

Used a save editor to just give it to myself.

Yup. They have rankings and NEXT resource requirements. By all accounts, they are completely operable. I have a sneaking suspicion that they are quicksilver only blueprints.
