Sean said a while ago that it'll probably be about the size of 1 DVD, so somewhere between 4 and 7 GB (if we're talking dual-layer DVD).

I think they mean a Blu-ray disc, which single layer is 25gigs and double is 50gigs. Im sure itll be much larger than 7 GB.
I believe about 15 to 20 gigs, makes the most sense.
Actually, GoE is right.

So I was gonna be like, I know this sounds ridiculous but we thought it would be like 10, 15 megs or something like that.
....
But it was very naive of me to think that we would have that really small download because we need sound effects and we need weapons and cockpits, things that are still similar across the game.
...
So it’s probably more approaching your triple-A game which would be maybe 5GB or something like that.

He obviously has no idea how big AAA games are nowadays, but never mind.

The game doesn't have 10s of thousands of assets and texture packs like an Assassin's Creed or GTA. It has a few hundred base assets from which everything is procedurally generated. Honestly I was surprised he said it would be as much as a whole DVD.

I think I remember hearing Sean say 20, so let's go with that. Besides, everything is generated so there is no need for a filesize any larger than 25.
The game is going to be 5-25 gb.

I know for a fact that it will not reach the 50gb mark.

On No Man's Sky's reddit they say it will be around 5 gb
Kinren 24. Juni 2015 um 13:09
The game is all procedural. I suspect it will not be that big.
It's procedurally generated, nothing exists until it has been found.

Like Quantum physics..."Reality only exists when you percieve it".

It will be no larger than 15gb...Though I'd say 5-6gb in reality...If that.
Every gb is procedural. XD But yeah, 15-20ish gigs sounds reasonable.

Not everything. The game uses base assets from which the game procedurally extrapolates. The in-game models/sounds/etc. aren't stored on your computer, they're generated and held in RAM until you move far enough away, then they're destroyed.
I was kidding about the 'Every gb is procedural'. Jokes don't translate well I guess.

/Sarcasm font. I don't know why that isn't standard by now.

To be honest, games that use Procedural Generation can be small, I assume no man's sky will be 5GB or maybe even less.
The reason why I think this is because there is a game that only contains 96KB of data and it uses procedural generation. Here's a wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.kkrieger
