Runaway Mould Farm
To create a farm that will provide nanites:

-Use the Economy Scanner to find a Gek 3-star system with at least six (6) planets.
-Once you have found a planet with Fungal Mould, pulse over to it.
-When you are in the atmosphere, DO NOT LAND. Instead, fly through the planet at 20 u/sec until at the top you see a three-star object
-Land your ship at that point and make a base

I followed this to the letter. The "three-star object" was a cluster of Sac Venums. Is this guide outdated or erroneous? I doubt I'll find another three star object for Curious Deposit, which is what I'm looking for.

Curious deposits are three-star. Not sure if they can be on the same planet as Sac Venom, but I think they probably can.

I don't think curious deposits are restricted to fungal mound planets, but I also don't know if they are more common there.

The guide is missing any mention that 3-star is not a guarantee, so that's wrong, but I can't speak to whether the fungal mould advice is useful for finding it quicker.

I think the best way to find many things is via the teleporter. I found the centre of galaxy by teleporting to someones base named "centre of galaxy". Saved me alot of time warping. You will likely find bases in teleporter named things like "runaway mould" and "curious deposit", particularly at a populated part of the galaxy.

While that guide may or may not be a good set of guidelines to follow, runaway mould can be found on just about any planet. There really is no other way to find it than by luck. If you look for it by flying, and come across the 3 star icon, do a second pass to see what it is. Sac venom looks a fair bit different than runaway mould.

I uploaded a base called "four nice ships and runnaways that don't" The base is right next to the moulds and has everything you need for mould farming, There are beacons on the planet for three more mould spawns, but you really only need the one. The base sits right next to a space station where four really nice ships spawn including a long nose and a tie nose fighter. It's an extreme winter planet, so come prepared. There are lots of storm crystals during storms.

Very nice. It would be convenient to have 2 curious deposit bases to travel between the spawns.

I posted coordinates for a base with 2 runaway spots, short range tele in between & a second base nearby so there is 4 large & 6 med refiners right there in a thread called "best way to farm nanites.

I now have 2 mold farms on this planet:

I don't mind using someone else's farm, but its more satisfying to use my own if I can find it.

I completely agree. It's fun designing your own base to match your own play style. Uploading it for me is just making it available to anyone else who may need a lot of nanites quick.

The one I built was actually happenstance. I was camping the trade station for S-class versions two of the four fighters that were coming there, and the moulds were just right there right off the landing pads, so I was like, I should just make a moulds farm since I'm spending all this time here anyway. Now I love it. It's very convenient to pop in, grab some nanites and storm crystals and pop back out.

I found another curious deposit of 24 balls on a paradise world:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2613391031

The "Jackpot" deposit has 20 balls.

Built 5 refiners at each base. Teleport between them and mine the deposit, fill refiners with 9999 stack of mold. 20 minutes to refine 10000 nanites, per base so about 20000 nanites every 20 minutes once all 10 refiners are humming along. 100k nanites per hour. I only need 50k to upgrade my ship, I'm done rather quickly :steamhappy:

I was just saying to myself today that I haven't seen any runaways on any planets in the last couple of weeks. I'm in a drought!

I think i may have to break down and actually build a base on a planet to do this.

Also found them on a radioactive world, so it's not just fungal planets
I found these back when Floating Crystals and Curious Deposits still contained Destabilized Sodium and the like. I always had more of those materials than I knew what to do with so I saw no reason to put a base down or record the planet and system.

The heartache I feel looking at this now is real.

Those instructions in the OP are obsolete in many ways. I think curious deposits are on every planet. Maybe more than others, not sure. I spent hours searching for the first one. 2 weeks later, I stumbled upon the big one on the paradise world while doing something else. Keep your eyes peeled for any big collection of balls like that. Scan it and hope for the 3 gold star symbol.
