Floating Islands are not "PHYSICAL"?
Finally found a perfect, always rainy, paradise planet with floating islands, and kept trying to land on one only to find out they have no collision mapping!

The big island with the waterfalls can be landed on but has incomplete collision mapping and you can still randomly fall through certain parts of them.

Is it supposed to be this way, or is there a fix incoming?

The floating islands are cool, but they are also just props and for some reason most don't have collision. There is a mod that fixes it but hopefully HG fixes it themselves considering they're quite front and center in the update's advertising.

There is a mod called SOLID ISLANDS that will make the smaller ones solid, like the big ones are, then you can land and build on them.

I tried to build a base on one of the islands with collision but it was problematic for me. I tend to build in layers and delete parts to get the look I want. I found that if a part gets placed below the collision then it's almost impossible to select it to delete later.

I think I'll just wait until they fix it before attempting to build bases on them.

The problem with running a mod is that everyone would have to have the mod. Already tried it in co-op and my friend fell to his death lol.

I've only seen one of these planets so far (the expedition starter planet). I thought seeing green water on the map is the identifier but it turns out it isn't. Anyone know a way to tell if a planet has floating islands without having to land on it?

it's a bug... hopefully

I searched in my main save for a very long time, I found out its mostly on paradise planets with yellow stars. Look for water and buy the scanner for the freighter it saves you a lot of time. Other than that its pure luck to find one ;)

Don't blame the islands or the mod, multiplayer is terrible in this game. Sometimes you will have clear skies and your friend standing next to you is dying in a storm. MP in this game is just to glitchy for me.

I have multiplayer on because I like seeing people walk around not because of any actual playing with them crap unless it's a quicksilver mission which I usually carry ngl

My floating isle base so far. MGazer is right -- if you have a part below the surface, which is above the visible graphics when near one of the rivers -- you can see it but cannot target it for editing at all.

Also, you cannot alter the surface with the Terrain Manipulator, at all.

Use the suggestion form in the bug forum to send them feedback about this. If enough people want this changed, hopefully they will fix this. I bet some amazing bases could be constructed by linking these islands together. Hopefully they will fix it.

Not sure if this applies to 'bedrock' on normal land as well, but if the terrain of a floating island clips into a structure, that structure will not act as shelter. Best to use a foundation.

My first take on the non-material islands was to prevent the NPC ships and frigates from getting stuck all the time on them. They would be essentially a mine field for those animated features...or it would look silly when they passed right through them.

My dude, how many times have you watched those exact same frigates reenact the launch of the space battleship Yamato?
