No Man's Sky
Weekend event... griefing?
I grabbed the Quest, and went through the portal. Looked like a nice planet, the anomaly was not too far, so i decided to go on foot and do some sightseeing in the way. About 1 minute later, these 2 dudes with ships started following me around, and blasting the ground with ship shotguns. I wasn't to worried, since they can't kill me, tho, but i wondered why?
They followed me all the way to the anomaly, going back around in circles, shooting the ground. When i got there, i figured out why; the mission was to get 16 eggs. So, the dudes were following me around, blasting the ground, just in case i was trying to tame critters for the eggs. They would kill the critters, which would make them all fuzzy and happy as a form of griefing.
Some other dude was running around killing all critters in sight.

In the end this was not an issue, i just flew off and did the stuff somewhere else with no problems.

I won't even ask why all the effort into putting effort into something so meaningless. I mean, even if i was piss drunk and thought that could be funny, it would take me a milisecond to realize how useless it is. But some folks were still trying to do the quest nearby. Come on, don't feed the trolls. Their ♥♥♥♥ stinks, and they rub it all over their faces, that's why they're angry.

This is the one of many reasons as to why i REFUSE to play in MP mode .... to many griefing players with nothing better to do then to make it difficult for others to play!!!
I haven't played mp since it was implemented. Want to avoid idiots like that. Perhaps I will much later on when I'm utterly bored of NMS.
Just turn off multiplayer, problem solved.
Trolls and griefers should be banned from all games. This is why we can't have nice things.
Somebody took a pot shot at me from a ship when I wasn't even on the mission... and of course I returned fire. My multi-tool is no joke ;)
Griefing in NMS can be simply avoided by enabling the " nobody can damage me" option in the menu. NMS's griefing is nothing compared to Elite dangerous, in that game you can literally get destroyed in a second after being interdicted, just go to a popular location.
Once I wanted to go to an engineer to upgrade my modules, and I was playing in open play. Guess what, since engis are popular, in mid flight I get interdicted, and while I did damage to them they still were a lot more powerful than me.
While this did not happen to me, just imagine a situation, you are going to colonia(a system far from the core worlds) and you get destroyed by a griefer. You lose ALL of your exploration data, and if you didin't go to any of the stations there you are sent to the beginning.
I'm sorry for going a bit off topic, but it's sad to see that it's literally mandatory to go solo play in many cases, when it's really fun to go around with some friends. At least NMS doesn't have that much of a problem. I think "Players can't damage me" should be an option in many other games.
And griefers should be banned as Orion said.

Until recently "Nobody can damage me", did not exclude damage from exocraft lasers though, did they fix that?

In Elite Dangerous at least you know, when you go from your friends' game into open play, it's officially PvP. In NMS, it's unfair because it's officially an exploration game, but the default setting is "player damage on" for newbies... Also players with and without Save Editors are together in the same session, any griefer with 2 brain cells can make himself 1000% OP without even the effort that is required in Elite Dangerous. :sefacepalm:

For everyone who gets stuck in a griefer base: I think you can report any base via the build menu. That doesn't actually report it to anyone, it just hides it for you so you can move again.

Actually we should ask on ZenDesk for a similar "ignore player" option, from the same menu where we can mute players.

Save editor is not nearly as influencial as mods are; you can give yourself stuff and edit base stats, but it's not as flexible.
I can imagine a good number of players here also play (or played) games like E:D, Eve Online, even COD and other pvp crap, and they want the same experience here. Too bad for them.

Save editor is not nearly as influencial as mods are; you can give yourself stuff, but not directly change stats. For the matter, i do appreciate that HG allows modded games to coexist with vanilla, and overall how easy it is to switch from online to offline; realistically, having advantages like godlike modded suit upgrades, multitools, ships, and even exocraft counts for little or nothing in the overall scheme of things.
If not for playing with friends, MP really has no effect (besides something like i described in the OP), but i like to have it on for immersion.

just a quick info. you can change stats with the save editor. for example you can give your ship 9999 damage per shot

Lol, this must be some kind of Steam sorcery, unless i accidentally pushed the post button while editing. Ah well :)
i'll never understand why people enjoy being a pain in other people's asses. i can be selfish and careless sure, but taking pleasure in something as useless as harassing strangers? there's gotta be something wrong with your brain.

Just a little fun story. Some years ago, i was having a casual conversation with the CFO of the company i used to work for, we found out we both played Eve Online. He asked me what i enjoyed doing, which was fleet activities and mostly minding my own business both in highsec and nullsec. His side, however came as a bit of a shock; i was expecting something like being a director of some company involved in some alliance or whatever, but his favorite activity was ransom highsec mission runners who used bling ships. o.0

Because of his responsible position he must release pressure^^

I hope he finds better ways in RL to manage the finances of your company...

They have a high opinion of themselves but nothing to validate it. So they try to shine by contrast.
