It's a trade good made by crafting. Some players like to hang out in the Space Anomaly and had them out to randos.
The problem here is that Money in this game will get you nearly anything you want/need when you want/need it, instead of developing the understandings of how to obtain materials and purposes they serve. Figuring out ways to earn enough money to buy that new ship, multitool, etc is part of adventure of game, particularly when starting out, and being handed all that money takes a lot of that away.
But, like said above, it's entirely up to you. If you're fine with scrapping half the lifetime (or more) of the game, and just creative moding it without figuring things out, then sell them. But if you want to actually play the game how it's meant to be played, discard them.
I use this site a lot. Here's the item you're referring to:
https://nomanssky.fandom.com/wiki/Fusion_Ignitor
There's a few items in the game that only exist in order to combine to increase the value of the base items. There's a little chart on the page above of what it took to produce one of the ignitors. Creating them isn't much, but the infrastructure to mass produce them is, and is many hours of someone's work. They gave it to you as a gift most likely. That was nice of them :)
