No longer have the Normandy Frigate after starting a new game?
Apparently they reworked how capital ships , and other stuff, works over the last year and a half so I deleted the save since the ship was buggy and wanted to stat fresh thinking the unlock would be tied to my account, but it isn't? am I missing something or is it gone forever.

Should still be available for you to claim from the Quicksilver Synthesis Companion.

doesn't show up, not sure if it matters but its a different computer. I'm looking up youtube tutorials right now that show how to 'unlock' all quicksilver rewards so I'll probably just do that.

Did you get a new computer, uninstall/reinstall the game, or a new hard drive?

The unlocks you have available is stored in an account data file in the same directory as your save games, so if you do something that 'deletes' the files in that folder, you lose your expedition unlocks (unless you make a backup first).

Are you sure your not using a differernt steam account? Some people use multiple steam accounts and maybe your using a different one? It could be that is the reason why.

You could just restore your save game files from your backups. You run regular backups, don't you?

Apparently you turned off Steam Cloud syncing, otherwise it should have saved your account data and backed it up onto your new PC when you started the game for the first time there.

And since you moved PCs without moving over your save files it obviously didn't keep your account data, which includes account unlocks. It is not something that gets saved on a network unless you use Steam Cloud and/or another built-in save-file backup service.

Steam Cloud has been a hit and miss for me. It used to overwrite newer local files with older cloud versions so I would lose my game progress. I ended up disabling it years ago. It's possible it bugged out and wiped his/her game saves from the cloud. That's why I'm a huge fan of doing your own file backups. Never trust "the cloud", in particular a free one, it's just a bunch of hard drives in some company's server, take responsibility for your own files. Cloud services are known to lose people's files. I even backup my Apple and Google photos. Windows comes with File History, just hook up a USB hard drive and figure out how to use it, it will save your ass some day.

There is a file that stores that information in the game save folder. If you still have the old machine you can copy it over.

Same, and also true for a LOT of people. Steam Cloud is like playing Russian roulette with your save files.

I backup my saves (automatically) to an external USB drive after every single play session though, for all games. Using an app called Game Backup Monitor[mikemaximus.github.io] so I'm still good-to-go.

I don't think that's correct. Without cloud save active on steam, account data magically keeps track of any Expedition rewards including the Normandy, so the account file is downloaded from elsewhere probably Hello Games. Similar to the tracking of any earned Twitch rewards. The Normandy expedition reward will be available from the Quicksilver vendor if you completed the expedition and claimed it earlier as suggested. It will be available for any new game start.

It's not magic; its a file, in your save game location, and [/strike] (Turns out this is wrong, sorry, I trusted that all the people who have had issues were reflective of reality. But they aren't)

Saves are stored in the folder: C:\Users\<yourname>\AppData\Roaming\HelloGames\NMS\st_<string of numbers>

And the two files with account data are named "mf_accountdata.hg" and "accountdata.hg".

It's not magic; its a file, in your save game location, and HG does NOT store it anywhere for you to re-download. Without steam cloud enabled it is NOT going to follow you to a new computer or hard drive, unless you manually back it up.

Haha, I know really it's not magic... but jokes aside. I just deleted my account data. Selected a save slot to play and the game account files 'magically' were downloaded again to the game folder. Expedition rewards were there and Twitch. Everything is available as expected including notice of already owned Quicksilver rewards.

The game will recreate any missing account file, the same as it will create a new save file if you delete the save in that slot and start a new game.

What it will not do is restore your expedition and quicksilver unlocks (unless you have steam cloud syncing on).

Edit: I should clarify I have not personally tested this, just based on other users who have gotten new computers or uninstalled/reinstalled the game 'losing all unlocks' is the basis for my statement. i.e. I guess I could be mistaken...but if that's the case, then HG does a HORRIBLE job of actually saving/restoring that information. Even worse than steam cloud.

Edit 2: Turns out he's right. After testing it myself, with a purged save folder, and cache, and a new game. The game remembers all of my unlocks.
