I need help, a glitch allowed me to get a living ship for free on the anomaly
I was in the anomaly getting some blueprints to build my base and I saw a really cool living ship on one of the bays and so I scanned it to see who owned it. It just said Alien ship, no owner or anything. I walked up to it curious and it gave me the prompt to fly it and so I did, and I flew to a planet and saw that it was summonable for me. I made a save and then loaded the game again and now I own it. I have never owned a void egg, I haven’t done any quest to get a living ship, but for some reason I now own one. It also has all of the mods of my ship I came in on, plus the same overcharge slots.

Does anyone know what happened or if I broke the game?

I’m also playing on Xbox.

Maybe someone gave it to you? I heard of people giving ships as gifts. I don't think it is a bug. Perhaps you were gifted without your knowledge the ship and you missed the gift messege on the anomaly.

If your in a group, ask them in chat. Probably someone gifted it to you. People in groups can gift ships to other people.

Anyways, have fun.

As for the mods for the ship, that is weird. Only mods compatible with living ships should be on it. That part might be a glitch. You might need to remove all of them except the biological updates on your new living ship.

you are mixing something up... the video shows you selling the ship to an NPC and the other player buys it from before it flys off... the OP in this post was on the Anomaly, not in a group, and did not have to sell or by the ship in question... AFAIK, there is no way to just transfer a ship to another player straight out... not in a group or in singles...

We need HELP.
What flavor of Save are you playing in? Normal? Creative? Expo? etc..
Multiplayer? Multiplayer~group?
Mods or Modless?
Did you lose "Discovery services" while shopping for BP and go off line? Did you force yourself offline, did XBox loose internet at any point on the Anomaly?

If you need help. Zendesk [hellogames.zendesk.com] will be happy to see your game save file and read the description of how this affected your game play.

i'm still trying to figure out what kind of "help" is really needed... the phrase "don't look a gift horse in the mouth" comes to mind...

I had the same thing happen with an explorer my son bought while in the space station. He had already left and I was just standing around, I asked him if he bought this ship and he said yes and that he had just parked it in his freighter, there was one just sitting free in the space station for some reason so I grabbed it. It was a C. My current ship was an A. After grabbing the "free" ship my A-class fighter was a C and damaged. All of my stuff AND the A class had transferred to the explorer. I just took it and ran. Luckiest thing that has ever happened to me in a game.

The luckiest thing that has ever happened to you was your A class ship broke and became C class? Wtf are you talking about?

Translation for you:
My A-class fighter was kinda crap and the class and tech all transferred automatically to the explorer which was a C to start with. Massive upgrade for free and didn't even have to move my tech around.

Im on Xbox so Im not modded, I play on normal on this save file and aside from daily and weekend missions, I play exclusively solo, not multiplayer, I never lost connection or made any changes to my connection speed, I was literally just getting blueprints, saw a cool ship and was able to get in it and everything from my previous ship transferred over, tech and inventory. I lost my previous ship in the process and the ship didn't have any living ship upgrades or tech, only the tech from my previous S class fighter.

Trust me I am happy with the trade, especially since I can get the ship I had that was lost in this endeavor at a base I made near an outpost, I'm just worried about the lack of living ship tech parts or whatever they're called, upgrades maybe, that aren't there. All I have are the mods and supercharge slots from my ship that I lost. Granted, I should be able to afford a void egg tomorrow so I will get a living ship the right way to feel the real experience of it all.

if u try summon ship, is there other ship option?

This is a case of getting wires crossed in multiplayer. You took another player's ship by accident. He probably still has a copy of it, so no worries.

Yea, sounds like a good deal. You got a ship that takes forever to get..lol.

I had the same thing not long ago.
An organic ship, I got on it, it transferred all the tech same stat, all was same exept skin, I thought cool, it must be something offered in the nexus.... >__<

I couldn't change the tech or add any, I didn't know anything about it, so I just exchange to another ship via NPC lol.

It's a good thing the techs were removable.

This has happened to me before, as well, with a few different ships.
I'm not sure what exactly causes it to happen on another player's end, but obviously it has something to do with multiplayer. Somehow the game thinks the player has abandoned their ship but not unloaded it from the game. So it essentially appears as a 'free ship'...

Once you board the new ship it OVERWRITES YOUR CURRENT SHIP with the type and... seed(?) of the ship that you get into, but keeps everything else including your inventory, tech, etc.

So you do pay a price for it. The price can be big if you are unaware of the bug and you did not want to overwrite your current ship... so be careful to anyone who sees this happen.

However, it's a very nice way of "upgrading" an 'ugly' ship you don't like into a new one, assuming the bug happens around you somewhere. If someone could figure out how to get this to happen intentionally that would be really awesome and we could kinda all trade ships, or even modify ships without a save editor.
I would personally LOVE to have a living ship with a combo of regular and organic tech in it... One of a kind Cyborg ship. :D

I haven't seen it happen anywhere around me in quite a while (several months/patches) so I assumed they patched it out, but since you said it just happened to you recently then I guess it's still in and it just hasn't happened to me in a while... *shrug* Who'da guessed?

FWIW: this bug and these details really should be posted to HG's zendesk so they can find and fix the defect... I have an issue to report in NMS[hellogames.zendesk.com]
