How do you guys select landing pads?
Can it be select pads?

the ship goes into autopilot as soon as you hit the blue docking bay light. No choice of pad. Im assuming you mean spacestation, ya?

Just get near it, over top (so you can't see it), hit "land" and hope.
If (when) you miss, hop up on the pad and summon your ship there with a bypass chip.

Usually as you're coming over the pad will get target arrows around it, hitting land then always works. If you're close enough the game will force it to land there.

Or tell you terrain ecombred and land 200m far away :D

I wish you could hit shift-E or something and activate "only land on a pad" mode.

They're just the lock on arrows you see when fighting pirates, they rarely come on when my ship decides to not be a ♥♥♥♥ and actually land on a pad for me :D
