G on Keyboard (I think it might be X on a controller, I don't have one.) by default scrolls the 3 (Currently) possible modes. Mining beam, Boltcaster, Terrain mutator.
Middle mouse button lobs the plasma grenades. (No idea what it is on a controller)

Wait till you have mining laser, terrain manipulater, Bolcaster, the shotgun and rapid fire ones whose names i forget, Plasma cannon, geo cannon, shield and combat scope on one multitool, lol.
