before Endurance, yes, the transfer was automatic... since then, it is not... probably because the freighters you rescue now have some rooms in them that you may want to keep... i've seen a few interesting ones but since we cannot move a room and all of its contents to another position in the build area, i just try to take a snapshot of them and recreate them later... so yeah, in my case, i always leave 1x Carbon behind to trigger the dialog and move my entire base over...
Its a real pain, just remember the item you leave in the Old Freighters inventory will be lost, so use something you do not mind losing.
Imo, the "old" way was much better. Seems to me that the default process when obtaining a new freighter should be to preserve whatever base layout existed, and then give the player the option whether to reset the freighter to its "stock" config.
1. keep new freighter's existing base layout and lose your existing base layout
2. reset the new freighter's base layout and lose your existing base layout
3. transfer your old freighter's base to the new freighter and lose its current layout
are there any more?
Agree. Should only require minimum effort to redo the existing menu.
It's really just about making it simpler for players (who wouldn't know better) to not end up unintentionally losing the time/effort they put into their freighters.
