Game crashed my computer, now my display won’t open
I was farming copper when the game crashed (second time on this particular deposit, on the ice world where you find the anomaly ship). Had to hard boot my pc because nothing was responding and now it won’t display anything when it turns on. Newer pc, built it a few months ago. One thing I noticed is that my cpu exhaust was running at max and hot, could the game have fried my CPU? I’ve done full power down and start up, unplug everything, use a different monitor, it’s definitely something with the PC but I can’t figure out what since it was running just fine until the crash.

Sure sounds like your graphic card might have gone kaput. If that is the case, I am not aware of any easy ways to find out. A lot of MBs come with a built in graphics, so you might pull it and see if you can at least get to the error reporting. It might tell you if it was a hardware failure.

I guess it could be the CPU as well, but pulling the Graphics card might allow you to eliminate the CPU...assuming your MB does have a built in graphics function. That seems pretty standard anymore just so you can do trouble shooting. I guess if you still get Nada when you pull the card, the CPU then becomes a suspect.

Yeah, I second that--boot the computer with the gpu removed from the system and connect your monitor to the internal mobo display. You may need to modify BIOS settings to enable the motherboard video, btw. If it's the GPU, the game won't have caused it to fry--they can fail all on their very own (blowing a defective capacitor is typical).

Not knowing what system components you have does not help anyone offer specific advice. Some cpu's do not have integrated graphics and plugging into the MB will not work if that is the case.

Some mother boards have diagnostic leds and will give a code that may help.

Other will have a beep sound that can alert to the problem.

If you have a different graphics card I'd try that first if you have none of the other options I offered.

CPU/GPU overheating issues = Fault of NMS?

You don't need to kick someone when they're down. Not everyone knows everything about how PCs work. Wheaton's Rule.

I would expect someone who built their own computer would know a lot about how PC's work, otherwise they shouldn't be doing it. Yes, it sounds like CPU overheating because the game is very demanding on it. It's unlikely the GPU would overheat because GPU's come with very effective cooling built into them. With the CPU it's up to you what kind of heat sink you install, the number of fans you install, what size they are and where they're positioned in the case.

Actually, I dont need to do anything. The OP would be better off posting something useful in a hardware forum. With his PC specs? Huh. I don't know, maybe "overclockers anonymous" for whichever CPU fan he uses. The only thing missing from his post is: "Every other game I played worked fine and those are more advanced than NMS" :steamfacepalm:

You really have to be that guy/person...
it helps to have a backup pc in times like this to rule out what exactly went wrong. you could test the gpu in another machine or swap another gpu into the problematic one. steam has a hardware and operating system forum that can be very helpful at times if you can provide enough information.

if you don't have your integrated graphics driver installed from your cpu I've been able to install it in the past by booting the pc and letting it idle even though I can't see anything. It will just automatically install if your cpu has one at least that's how it's worked for me on win 10. You can then restart your computer with your monitor plugged into the motherboards slot and be able to see your desktop.
