Weird advice for stellar extractors
I've found a few things that seem to keep my extractors from ghosting contents almost consistently. I've tested all of these over several weeks. I don't know for sure that these aren't just placebos but I had constant issues with extractors before I noticed these.

1. Keep your freighter in one position while in the star system you are collecting from. This appears to have the biggest impact on whether or not I would find gas and metal in the harvesters. Calling my freighter over to me seemed to be the largest factor in resetting the collection process.

2. Stack your extractors. I used to have extractor lines around my freighter, now they're all located in two large First/Second story rooms near the center of the ship where I spend the most time. I don't know if load-in has anything to do with this but all or most extractors are now either full or filling in sync.

3. Walk to your extractors. Yup, walking speed appeared to have some effect on it so now I always walk to them. Load time? Who knows?

4. Wait a moment between accessing each extractor. Most recent. In the last three days I have had zero empty extractors that should have otherwise been full just by waiting a few seconds before opening the next one.

Give 'em a try, nothing to lose. Explanations? Ideas?

The 'walk to' thing fits my experience too. I put a teleport to my stellar extractor room from Day 1 , and have had about 400 Chromatic metal total in several months of playing. I walked in a few days ago, and nearly half (I have about 20) were full with 350 CM each. Never seen anything else but CM though.

The production is dependent on Star type. Red, Green, and Blue stars produce the progressively more refined gases beginning with Nitrogen for Red. These sometimes also produce CM but Yellow stars are the primary producer of that.
