Much like terrain regrowing when there's no logical reason why it should. Expand your base at your own risk.
I'm not sure I understand your problem.
Every time you place a part an area 50 dia centered on the part is added to you build area. Are you trying to place a part more than 50 u away.
The maximum distance from the base computer you can build something is 1000 u. Are you trying to build further away than that?
I have a base that includes an em spot and 4 mining spots. Two if those spots are ~1600 u apart and I was able to connect everything..
It's more work, but it removes the need for the extra base parts. You also do it without digging the tunnel.
I've given up on HG to give us building parts, thank god for UCLI-EA and Kibbles & bits mods
Edit: I'm using maybe 10 or 15 original parts in my 1000 plus parts base builds, mostly small indoor stuff, teleports etc
We have more than enough parts the real problems are,
A. Can't prevent terrain regrowth
B. You basically have to trick the system into allowing you to place things the way you want.
Fix those, then worry about more parts.
