Base Building Distance Rules
Not understanding some of the rules for what you can build where. I have a base and an ElectoMagnetic Power source about 1000u away connected with some Lights. That's all good but why can't I build structures near the power generator?

Going out on a limb here but its based on distance from your base computer.

Similar thing is happening to me expanding my base, I can build since all my pieces are close to each other but as soon as I go back towards the center, turn around to see how it looks pieces are gone or will be next time I log in. it sucks but it is what it is

what will happen to the structures placed before i remove the base computer? i never tried doing this so i'm a bit concerned

They will be nullified. You better remove expensive parts those you dont want to go to waste.

The only time I stretch the limits of the 1000u is when I'm triangulating between EMF, gas and mineral hot spots. I always set the base computer in such a way the the EMF may be just past the 1000u and build with the build camera. I have had no issues with the power generation. Albeit, I have not done this since the Companions update and those bases were deleted a while ago.

I still don't think extending base limits via building things is entirely on purpose as it gets extremely buggy where after relogging you can no longer build inside rooms outside the original base radius etc.

Much like terrain regrowing when there's no logical reason why it should. Expand your base at your own risk.

I'm not sure I understand your problem.

Every time you place a part an area 50 dia centered on the part is added to you build area. Are you trying to place a part more than 50 u away.

The maximum distance from the base computer you can build something is 1000 u. Are you trying to build further away than that?

I have a base that includes an em spot and 4 mining spots. Two if those spots are ~1600 u apart and I was able to connect everything..

If you've extended your base to the power source using lights, but now can't build there, save and reload, and your ability to build in the extended area will return.

Yeah, reloading fixed it. I walked from the base to the power source with the build menu up following the wire and at times about midway between two lights the menu went away but then it came back as I approached the next light. Since the wires only go a maximum of 200u I'm thinking that outside your main base there's something like a 150u range requirement from your nearest structure (and lights count for that).

I just use batteries as wiring junctions that extend the wire range, which I also use to extend the build range to the target power/mining source.

I've also used the 1/2 walls and a half arch on top with a light to connect and extend the base. What we need is telephone poles in the build menu. LOL

Don't get me started lol! Poles, railings etc.., just wish they would add more structural parts rather than fluffy parts.

I dig a tunnel along the bed rock. Place a pavers every 50 u. Then run wires end to end every three paver and go back and delete the pavers.

It's more work, but it removes the need for the extra base parts. You also do it without digging the tunnel.

I've given up on HG to give us building parts, thank god for UCLI-EA and Kibbles & bits mods
Edit: I'm using maybe 10 or 15 original parts in my 1000 plus parts base builds, mostly small indoor stuff, teleports etc

We have more than enough parts the real problems are,

A. Can't prevent terrain regrowth

B. You basically have to trick the system into allowing you to place things the way you want.

Fix those, then worry about more parts.
