How do I discover extinct fauna?
My planet requires me to find 10 animals for the nanite reward. One of them is an extinct species and I'm not sure how or even if it's possible to find them. Will discovering the 9 get me the reward, or will I have to uncover a fossil or something?

It's not some special class of fauna.

When Origins was released, they re-did the animals to give them more variety and different behaviours. The previously existing animals were supposed to be removed from the game, and marked as extinct in your discoveries catalogue.

Unfortunately, it didn't quite work. Lots of players found animals happily existing on planets, with extinct in their name, because no one told them they were supposed to be dead. So when you start cataloguing the creatures on that planet, you may well find the one on your list that's apparently extinct.

I usually find a group of life extinc animals and kill them untill they became extinct. Works like a charm and gives the "dodo" award.
