Report a translation problem
When Origins was released, they re-did the animals to give them more variety and different behaviours. The previously existing animals were supposed to be removed from the game, and marked as extinct in your discoveries catalogue.
Unfortunately, it didn't quite work. Lots of players found animals happily existing on planets, with extinct in their name, because no one told them they were supposed to be dead. So when you start cataloguing the creatures on that planet, you may well find the one on your list that's apparently extinct.

I usually find a group of life extinc animals and kill them untill they became extinct. Works like a charm and gives the "dodo" award.
