Pugneum used to make nanites seems to be a lost cause now
I have played this game for almost 500 hrs now, and used pugneum to covert into nanites. I already have all the ships I want, but decided to make another this week. Finding pugneum as I did before is no longer possible. This substane now has a sale limit of 175 units which makes buying it not worth the effort if the plan is to convert it into nanite batttling droids is also a lost cause. So how do you make enough nanites now to upgrade a ship ?

Quests (both at station and Nexus).
Eggs - 50 nanites each.
Buying and selling S class ships for modules.
Derelicts

Also find distress signals and wreck the crashed starships. You'll get up to 3 tech modules, which can then be sold for nanites.

Collect living slime from all over the place, but derelicts have the most. They can be processed into nanites as well.

Also, if you're finding slime to cook from broken machines, the buried tech modules can be cooked for nanites, and you'll sometimes get upgrades that you can sell for nanites.

The absolute fastest way I know to get nanites is to farm whispering eggs at abandoned buildings. You can find abandoned buildings reliably with an upgraded exocraft scanner. At 500 hours the horrors should not be threatening to you, they certainly aren't to me.

If you absolutely must manufacture them you can go around to all the stations you have on your list and buy up residual goop and viscous fluid and refine it.

If you really like pugneum for some reason you can stand in front of a depot, piss off the sentinels, and shoot walkers for a while. They drop ~100 each, you can farm a 10K stack in about an hour or so.

Get Tainted Metal from Desolate Freighter missions and refine it 1 x Tainted Metal gives 2 x Nanites so........ 10K stack gives you 20K Nanites (takes a while to refine though)
Also scrapping exotic ships, rinse and repeat like this double spawn...

You will need 25+ million to start scrapping properly. You can collect Storage Augmentation too. If you get to 35+ Storage Augmentation you can max out the slots on the next 12 million exotic you buy and scrap it for 120 million, thus funding further scrapping

I just came back to the game, and their are changes I do not care for. First my planet scanner no longer works unless I am very close to eacj planet, and for me the fun is exploring systems. Before, I refind pugneum for nanites and could buy up to 4000 from captains on space stations, now it is limited to 175. So for me that is a problem since I decided to upgrade a new ship I just purchased and decided to upgrade it. I play other games and the grind in me is just grinded out. In my opinion games are suposed to be fun, not grindy. When I played this game before I found it fun to build and explore, not having to grind for nanites was the best part of the game for me. I was going to start a creative charachter, but now will be closing that Idea down.

That is tragic.

I trust you know how to make a lot of money? If so, just continually scrap the following exotic that gives you 3 Storage Augmentation each time. You will soon have enough to max the slots out of your new ship

You can refine the slime and goo and mold you scrape off containers and consoles for nanites.

I still buy pugneum from NPC's at space stations in larger stacks then 175. Bought 3k from an NPC just last night.

I have tons of money, and just purchased the yellow bee ( not sure the name ) and already maxed out the storage. The other same ship I have is white and gold. What I need to do is upgrade it to an s class, and do not know why it is a b class ? when before these type ships where all s class. So I need to get the ship upgraded and get some upgrades for the shield and weapons. Since before all I ever did was use pugneum. Did not plan on building another ship, but that is just what I like to do.

Wow, sitting in front of a refiner was your joy? Seriously?

The game has so many resources that can become nanites and place to collect them that do not require that much grind. You just collect items and nanites while exploring and do a little refining at times.

Slime and it's cousins refine to nanites.
Salvage tech modules, hadal cores, larval cores all convert to nanites.
Tech salvaged from crashed ships can be sold for nanites.
Tech received from various items while exploring also.
Derelict Freighter hand out lots of nanites.
Every building site and damaged machinery on planet hands out nanites.
Uploading discoveries as well.
Tainted metal gives two nanites per in a refiner.
Cooking does as well but I'm not versed in that.

Then you have many other ways.

I have to agree but then again, this game brings about this type of players. Just about to upgrade starter ship into an S Class and not even trying; was just simply playing the game. That tainted metal makes getting nanites far more easy then ever for those hard up for it. Backpack refiner ftw.

Before this update you could buy 9999 pugneum from the space station captains in a few minutes if you were lucky, or maybe 10 minutes if you were not, and then turn that into 5000 nanites from buying modules from the scrap vendor, selling them and reloading. This was by far the fastest way to accumulate nanites. Farming tainted metal might be the "new best way" but it seems like it will be 10x slower or more than the previously available best way, even if that way was a bit exploit'ish (or a lot)

You got that right ! pugneum was by far the best way, and is the way I used. Now I have scraped the ship I was going to upgrade, and will just explore. Perhaps I will find some new locations they moved the x-class crashed ships too.
