Need Nanites? Try this!
I don't know if anyone else has figured this out, or I'm just slow on the uptake but I just thought I'll share this:

I've been needing Nanites for upgrading this ship I got but I was in struggle town trying to get Nanites, and that was when I realized that Research Traders aboard stations can buy the Blackmarket Module upgrades from the Scrap Dealer.

Now this method is not cheap. It's fine if you got more Units than you know what to do with though, so if you're fine with that, then that's okay.

1) Install an economy scanner on your ship.
- This is important because you're be needing to find a 3 star economy system. It's name(aka: 'wealthy' etc) doesn't matter, as long as it has 3 stars. This ensures the most items in a trade.

2) Land on the station and buy 'Pugneum'.
- This is where the units come in. Buying all of them from a trader can, give or take, cost you around 800k units for about 4000 Pugneum.
- You can also find Pugneum at the Galatic Trade Terminal.
- Some traders don't stock Pugneum. If you're having no luck finding traders that sell it, try another 3 star economy system.
- You can farm it too from Sentinals, but I don't have the patience for that lol.

3) Buy everything from the Scrap Dealer.
- Well, the modules at least. And the Suspicious Packet(Technology + Weapon) and open them to get the modules.
- Scrap Dealer trades with Pugneum, not units.

4) Sell Blackmarket Modules to the Research Traders.
- Exactly that. Just walk right up to them and sell them all.
- This is where you get those lovely Nanites!

5) Travel to the next system to repeat the process.
- Unless you have lots of Pugneum. You can just go straight to the Scrap Dealer.
- EDIT: As people have stated, you can just save you game(aka, hop in your ship, and hop back out) and just reload. Everything should be reset!

This is how I've been getting my Nanites. Honestly, the hardest bit is trying to find a system with Traders that sell Pugneum.

EXTRA: Also, if you need freighter fuel for those missions for your frigates, buy the Di-Hydrogen Jelly and Tritium from the traders. Di-Hydrogen Jelly can be broken down in your refiner(Or the Exosuit Personal Refiner) for 50 Di-Hydrogen.

I hope this method helps others just as much as it has helped me!

You can also buy and scrap ships and sell the modules. Low slot A-S class ships work best for Units spent vs Nanites earned.

I personally don't have anymore spots to buy ships, so that is why I posted this version to get nanites incase anyone else is in the same boat as I am

I also do so have with me at a base even an S class exotic which I have often scrapped
i go even further and just buy ships and scrap them i have enough units anyway and always close to the unit max limit so i just have to burn units.

There is even a glitch (a little complicated) to do that indefinitely. Which ofcourse breaks the fun obviously.

Or you could go for Larval Cores, they are easy to farm, each stack of 5 gives 250 nanites.

But thanks for sharing, might help one or another

I think those are sitting in space station's private rooms, check the doors, you need to build a station for them in your base though.

Only the effort is not worth it

Those traders where you can buy modules to upgrade your exosuit/exocraft/spaceship/multitool.

Just access their buying menu, swap it to sell and sell your extra modules

I done that with a large batch. It takes a bit of time to do it, and I just found that for the time exchanged, it wasn't worth it in the end.

Yeah, I usually go the mass by pugneum route and refine it.

It might be quicker to hit up derelict freighters. You can average 4k+ nanites.

It's a useful supplement to the nanites you get from broken machines; just bung the slime in your backpack refiner rather than throwing it away and let it cook as you're wandering around doing other stuff and it increases your nanite haul by ~50%. Maybe shoot an extra plant now and then.

It just depends how you like to play the game. It's pretty painless if you're doing a lot of on-foot exploration anyway, but wouldn't be appealing to someone that was more into the industrial or commercial side of things.
