Hello Everyone,

First of all, thanks so much to everyone who has already spent time playing No Man's Sky and letting us know about any issues you’ve experienced.

Steam users are able to opt-in to the Experimental Branch, where we have pushed a patch to address some problems. We’ll be rolling out these fixes to other platforms as soon as possible.

To play in Experimental, right-click on No Man’s Sky from the Steam library page and select “Properties”. Among the available tabs will be the “BETAS” tab. Enter “3xperimental” in the textbox and press “CHECK CODE”, then select it from the dropdown menu.

The patch notes are as follows:

Experimental Branch Update 21/07
  • Fixed an issue that was doubling the power of various fleet upgrade modules that could be installed in player freighters.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed players to destroy a derelict freighter they were currently aboard.
  • Fixed an issue that caused a soft lock when declining a group invite.

Experimental Branch Update 20/07
  • Fixed an issue that caused the Anomaly Detector to never find an anomaly.
  • Fixed an issue that caused player freighters to change colour. Freighters have been restored to their correct colours.
  • Fixed a crash related to derelict freighter atmospheric effects.
  • Fixed an issue that overly inflated the complexity value of a range of base parts, causing bases to be culled incorrectly.

Experimental Branch 17/07
  • Fixed a visual issue with the lighting of teleporters aboard derelict freighters.
  • Ladders between floors of abandoned freighters are now orientated so that the player always faces forwards into the next room.
  • Fixed a number of instances of freighter log snippets being difficult to interact with.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause abandoned freighter decoration to occasionally spawn outside of the freighter.
  • Fixed an issue that caused an incorrect chat message to be sent when discovering creatures in the new exploration Nexus mission.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause ingredients to be incorrectly awarded to players in Creative Mode.
  • Fixed a stall that could occur when generating the procedural interior of a derelict freighter.
  • Fixed a rare issue that could cause the name of a freighter storage box to be incorrect when viewed in the inventory tabs.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the derelict freighter interior lighting settings to turn on while on the landing pads.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed players to summon the Space Anomaly on top of a derelict freighter.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the derelict freighter marker not to appear in multiplayer.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause derelict freighter lighting settings to be applied to normal freighters.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the player torchlight to stutter as it moved.
  • Fixed a rare issue that could cause multiplayer players aboard the same derelict freighter to see different interiors.
  • Introduced some minor performance improvements to derelict freighter art assets.
  • Fixed a number of incorrect or missing icons on derelict freighter mission hints.
  • Collecting both logs and using the engineering control panel will now move the derelict freighter mission on, even if all rooms have yet to be explored.
  • Fixed a rare issue that could cause different space encounters to spawn while searching for a derelict freighter.
  • Introduced a number of other general optimisations.
  • Player titles are now shown in the interaction prompt as well as in player icons.
  • Fixed an issue that caused derelict freighter teleporters to be incorrectly synced in multiplayer.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the derelict freighter airlock door to still be sealed from the point of view of multiplayer players who arrived aboard the freighter after the doors were unsealed.
  • Improved the timing of the messages in the derelict freighter airlock door sequence.
  • Fixed a number of minor text issues.
  • Fixed a number of visual issues with decoration in derelict freighter engineering rooms.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented freighters from being recoloured immediately after purchase.
  • Fixed an issue that caused technology labels to appear on some derelict freighter items.
  • Fixed a number of clipping issues with derelict freighter decorations.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented freighter technology from being placed in the technology inventory.
  • Fixed a rare issue that could cause a hang during loading.
  • Fixed a number of audio issues.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the destruction state of several items on derelict freighters to be incorrectly synced in multiplayer.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented emergency supplies from being collected from the airlock terminal on some derelict freighters.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the secondary weapon to fire when dismissing the detailed mission notification.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause hostile aliens on the derelict freighters to target players incorrectly.
  • Fixed a number of issues that could cause hostile aliens on the derelict freighters to desync in multiplayer.
  • Fixed a number of music issues aboard the derelict freighter.
  • Improved the visuals of the derelict freighter walkway.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented freighter recolouring from working on all the panelling of some freighter types.
  • Improved the smoothness of the lighting changes when entering a derelict freighter.
  • Improved the atmospheric fog visuals inside the derelict freighter.
  • Fixed an issue that caused textures to look incorrect in some weird biomes.
  • Fixed an issue that caused cycling freighter inventory tabs to only work in one direction.
  • Fixed a number of issues that could cause overlapping text in the freighter storage container tabs.
  • Fixed an issue that caused derelict freighter turret animations to be synced incorrectly in multiplayer.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the derelict freighter airlock alarm to loop forever in multiplayer.
  • Fixed an issue that caused multiplayer ship audio to be too loud while instead a derelict freighter.
  • Fixed a heater being unreachable in a derelict freighter.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed multiple uses of the Cargo Bulkhead upgrade module.
  • Reset the disable mods file.
  • Fixed an issue that affected collision on abandoned Space Stations.

As always, thank you to all players who use Experimental and take the time to report any issues you encounter.

Please note there is the possibility that experimental builds may introduce new issues that haven't been caught in test. We'd like to recommend that all players back up their save files, by making a local copy of the st_[userid] folder found here: %appdata%\HelloGames\NMS\

Note that we don't anticipate any issues here. However, performing your own backups could mean the difference between resuming play immediately, or waiting for the next patch.

If you decide to opt out of experimental and return to the main branch, we strongly recommend resuming from a backed-up save from the main branch, rather than taking an experimental branch save back to main, which may cause unexpected behaviour.

Feedback and reports of new bugs/issues being found on Experimental are welcome, so please reply to this thread or submit a ticket to https://hellogames.zendesk.com/ with the phrase "Steam Experimental" in the ticket title. If you are running any mods for the game, please list them along with your bug report.

I see you mention fixing the ability to paint freighters properly, but what about freighters colours being shifted? All my saves freighters are now different colours than before Desolation. It would be nice to not need to pay nanites to paint them back after spending so many hours searching for the exact right colours.

Thank you for the quick patch. Hope this patch comes to consoles asap, as several of these fixes are greatly needed. Edit=Perhaps give one coloring for free to everyone so people can fix their messed up colors.

Anyone else having asteroids just disappear and not showing the usual explosion when they are destroyed?.. Its just a visual issue as far as i can see, but muh immersum is brokneed!!!

In 2.60 release I noticed a sort set of square shadows appearing at a distance on one of the mountains upon which I built a base. I am now running this 17/07 update and I spotted the same issue again, on a different world. I've recorded a small video clip of this appearing and disappearing (with distance), to illustrate. (Seeing this both in and out of Photo Mode.)

This is happening for lots of folks, and it's not just asteroids. After a while, anything that gets blown up pretty much goes "poof", including stuff being harvested or mined on the planets. I've heard that restarts temporarily fix the issue.

I'm also not pleased with the texture streaming on this update. It's bravo delta after a while, too, and man does Nada look ugly without his detail textures and normal maps.

Nice fixes but it broke or disrupted a lot of things that worked properly before. for example, npc's appearing like holograms now instead of actual creatures<scanners no longer scan out properly or yield results, whispering eggs disappear when u shoot them without dropping larva, items and tiles appear as red instead of green when trying to build now so its more difficult to determine valid positioning, when in visor mode everything is zoomed in like a magnifying glass and there is no longer a zoom in/out capability, etc...i'm compiling a full list.

The game is not enjoyable in its current "broken" state so myself and others I know will be waiting in the hopes for a patch to fix the issues this update caused. Its hard to play now when you know all these things are broken or not working as intended and changes what you experienced the first 100+ hours you played. (no mods)

Freighter paints still seem to be bugged, at least on sentinel freighters. Primary color changes the color of the smaller bits and stripes but secondary and accent color do nothing as far as I can tell. The camera view is also zoomed in way too much, even while holding the button to zoom out. Would also be nice if there was a button to zoom back in instead of needing to hold it down. Several titles that have their criteria met are also not being awarded. In my case its the Apprentice title for the explorer's guild, the title for impressing cronus, and the Seeder of Worlds title (assuming it's given at the end of the atlas storyline). There are also other titles like the DIvergent and Timeless one's that I would assume are story related and if they are, I should also have them.

You broke the anomaly detector. Completely.

If you use one in this experimental branch, you never find an anomaly. Ever. And it stops you from finding random ones. So using an anomaly detector locks out anomalies of all kinds until a fix is deployed.

Ran in to this issue myself. What's making this worse is that it "hijacks" the mission/information window with the "Active the Pulse Drive" message (and yes, there IS a typo in the message) and stops objective markers from appearing (good luck trying to do the Weekly Mission with this "game breaking" bug).
