Adding Custom Music
Hello!

Is posible for the next updates to give the chance of listening downloaded custom soundtracks inserted in a game's folder and play it from the ship/freighter/base?

Great idea. That would be awesome. I want the Normandy music when I'm in my freighter.

Any updates on this?

Nope. Can't you just turn down the in-game music and turn up your stereo?

The game doesn't use standard music files for the music it plays, nor for the 'byte beat' device, so I don't think HG even has the required license(s) to allow standard music file playback.

Licensing mp3 playback for a game isn't that expensive, but so far they have had no reason to do it and, given that the game is now over 6 years old, I find it unlikely they would change that JUST to allow you to do something you can already do by muting the game music and playing your music in the background.

Where are they? I haven't gone through all the PAKs, but I haven't been able to find them.

The game's music is just .xml files. So you probably haven't been looking for the right file types. It is procedural, algorithmic music that is generated on-the-fly while you play, which is why they are .xml files. Pretty cool way of doing it, imo.

I'm not honestly sure off the top of my head which pak file they are in, as I extract ALL of the pak files to a folder on my PC for easy access to whatever I want.

The only custom music i know of is the bytebeat stuff that other players can make you can get. I believe your talking about the actual music in the game though. They are different. Do as Jaggod Edje says.

Exactly. I usually have spotify open in the background, then you can control the tracks with your phone while you play, way more of a 2020s solution IMO.

That I'll do it..if I discover how to actually do it...

There is a solution to this in case you don't know it mate:

Convert files into X

If it plays in game, any music can be converted into that format.

So far that's what we, and by "we" I mean me, will have to go through them eventually...ngl, I'm not in the mood.

Not that I will not do it...but just don't know when.

That's amazing tho, the algorithm thing with the musics!

Btw, if you find them please link them here, as I'll make a really B I G list of suggestions of musics to use in them...if it's possible to change some specific parts of certain songs, I might be able to edit them...I have a idea on how to do it, just need confirmation.

But to exemplify:

As our friend up there asked, Normandy has some parts to it, I can cut these parts, do it again for other similar songs with the same tone of Mass Effect and see what happens.

IF...the way the music works like the way you said. It is possible, problem is it will be a pain to edit the songs in a way they would fit.

To make a really story short, no, I can not just put a playlist and then control with the keyboard for example, also I just don't like to have one more stuff to control when I'm playing a game like this.

And as I said, I'm using the Steam music playing thing, it does the job don't get me wrong, the problem is the way it "organizes" the musics on it's scanned list.

But the topic is not about this so lets get back to it...

I'll eventually take a look on these PAKs but ngl, if someone could do this part I'll be greatly thankfull.

Just don't forget that if this works out, I'll do it...idk how, but I'll do it.
Well turns out that yeah, it is impossible so far to do it.

Jaggid explained in my other post and I didn't saw it first, I though there could be a way but nope.

Oh well, better luck next time.

I feel like you have failed to understand what procedural/algorithm music actually. It's not just a 'file type' that you can convert an mp3 into. It's music that is NOT pre-recorded.
There's no 'music files' in the game. The music is generated on-the-fly by the game, from the xml code.

edit: you beat my reply with your reply. I think you do get it now. :)

GOTTA GO FAST!

And no I didn't failed to understand how that works, I know how it works, but I failed to understand...*how* it actually works.

I though you were saying that there were parts, of a full song, like in Doom Eternal, that were randomized between them to form a song, not actually a code.

I just didn't though it was this deep, wich is amazing <3

Thanks again for your attention and help mate!
