I got the same "unable to initialize vulkan" error, and it worked after I re-installed my graphics drivers (I have a GTX 1080). Also make sure you do a "clean install" when re-installing your drivers.

same here. Latest drivers updated, experimental mode all the same - Vulkan crash.

You can try updating your graphics card drivers.

So I just uninstalled the game Then uninstalled the Graphic drivers and reinstalled everything again.
It seems to be working OK now.

I know it's been several months but for those who found this on Google like I did and had a fresh install of new drivers not fix the issue, if you have a GeForce card maybe visit their Vulkan driver developer page:

https://developer.nvidia.com/vulkan-driver

UPDATE: Although the above fixed the Vulkan thing, my game kept crashing. That was what I was originally trying to fix and what precipitated the Vulkan error.

I had, with realizing it, found an old driver to "fix" the crashing error. Then came Vulkan. But once I found the real latest driver at Nvidia (rather than a Google search), things have gone better.

So far.

And HOW did you found the latest Nvidia driver? I'm trying to do that, but the search is driving nuts, once I only use my PC to browse the Internet and play games -- I don't understand a thing about drivers!

If you have an Nvidia card, maybe start here: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

But you shouldn't have to know anything about drivers anyway. The game developer should do all that for you! Uninstall and reinstall the game works sometimes and you can let Hello Games know you have a problem and see if they help you fix it or maybe visit a community page and see if other No Man's Sky players can help out.

I haven't had any issues for a long time now so I'm not really up to date on current bugs.

I had the same problem with the game not starting. Crashing with no error after Hello Games scree. It exited with no further warning.
Drivr update did not work. Windows update did not work either. Re installing it all did not work.
Solution: Disable Windows audio service before starting the game.
After it loads you can re start the service and have audio in the game.
I now start the game from a Batch file like this:

net stop audiosrv
start "" "K:\Games\No Man's Sky\Binaries\NMS.exe"
timeout 30
net start audiosrv

Change the EXE file line as needed in your case.
Depending on your system speed you may need to increase the timeout to restart the audio service.
Run the BAT file as Administrator or will not work.

Make sure you have mesa-vulkan-drivers installed

Erm.... this thread started in 2019. The last reply prior to yours was from 24 July 2022. This is a very old thread, it has ceased to be and should really have been left for dead. To rest in peace. If you had not necro'ed it it would have been pushing up the daisies with its meteorically metabolic processes history.

This really should have been left an ex thread.
