Good Lord please make Magnetized Ferrite work
Now we have not just one but two ways of mining it and other "secondary" resources that don't work. Please fix this. This mining nonsense has been going on for a year? Two years? I don't even remember.

I can just buy the stuff but why can't I role play that I mine it instead?

Mine Pure Ferrite and refine it?

Mag Ferrite has been in the game 9 months... not one year, and most certainly not two. There are 3 ways to mine it... and I'm absolutely certain that two of them work... the 3rd is the newest way... Maybe realize that fixing the mineral extractor isn't high on the priority list... maybe you'll just have to suck it up and use one of the other two ways of mining it, or as has already been pointed out, you can refine it.

Planetary deposits and refining are working fine, no idea what you're talking about.

Ferrite dust > Pure ferrite > Magnetized ferrite
Just mine and refine.

Autonomous Mining Units from pre-Beyond work, but only if you stay close. If you leave the area they tend to 'reset' and empty themselves (of both fuel and product), which they didn't in NEXT. (Likewise atmosphere harvesters.)

Also the pre-existing 'AMU randomly swaps to the local chromatic metal base instead of the resource it's actually on' bug is still present and seems to be *much* worse than it ever was before.

Then there's the new Industrial Mining - which doesn't work on Mag. Ferrite, because it's bugged. Miners and silos both have zero capacity for that resource (also Gold, maybe a couple of others). Suphurine is slightly differently bugged (capacity 10 instead of 250). Most other resources seem to work correctly.

Not exactly. This occurs 100% of the time if there are different kinds of deposits you have AMUs on in the vicinity - when you refuel a mining unit it will switch to the most recent type you had interacted with in this planetary instance. So, if you have copper and sodium close to each other, copper will start mining sodium if you interact with sodium miners before interacting with copper ones. This reproduces 100% for me.

Well, the AMU I had on Magnetised Ferrite before Beyond was the only one on the planet, and after Beyond kept switching to Activated Copper, which I have *never* mined. Or even had in my inventory. So, YMMV. :)

On another note, though, it does occur to me that Dioxite refines into Ferrite Dust 1:1 and can be mined with industrial extractors, so there might be a workaround there.

Mineral extractor doesn't work at all:

AMU generally mines Magnetized Ferrite as Copper, except the first time the AMU is placed, and apparently after some patches.

Sure, it works fine.

The AMU bug was around during NEXT and maybe before that.

No, I have never mined copper on this planet or during this expansion and I don't need it. I may have excavated a deposit a few days ago. But the only AMUs I have placed are the three on this Magnetized Ferrite deposit. I have not in this entire save placed an AMU on a copper deposit as far as I can remember.

Just mine and refine.
And if you add oxygen to ferrite dust you go directly to mag ferrite

Does someone actually mine ferrite dust? Ugh. (1) Buy it (2) Put scrap into the alchemy machine for expansion into ferrite dust.

The magnetized ferrite is for cuboid building (after converting to pure ferrite). I don't want to actually mine pure ferrite either.

Here are some higher yield refining recipes - enjoy your newfound mountain of magnetized ferrite. It is a bummer that mining isn't working as expected, but this is a bit more efficient and less costly path.

1 Pure Ferrite + 1 Condensed Carbon = 3 Mag. Ferrite

1 Platinum + 1 Oxygen = 10 Mag. Ferrite

1 Ferrite Dust + 1 Pure Ferrite + 1 of (Silver, Gold, or Platinum) = 5, 8, or 12 Mag Ferrite, respectively.

That's interesting.
And as to the reproducible bug mentionned by JustSmile, please submit this in a bug report (if you haven't already), that much detail in a bug behavior make the difference in the fixing process.

For instance here it seem the game use a "quick and dirty" trick to remember what mineral to mine for specific locations (which is probably the cause of the bug).

Want to correct something here - combining Ferrite of any kind with Oxygen yields rusted metal. You get more rusted metal for using higher tiers of ferrite. You are likely thinking of the "Carbonizing Metal" recipe, which is 1 Carbon + 1 Ferrite dust and does yield 1 Mag Ferrite.
