So... I visited my own base from a new save game... and....
I have some bases in Eissentam galaxy.
I wanted to experience what it would be like to find and discover them "as another player".
I constructed these bases in survival mode.
I have put base parts very close to the planet portal (approx 15-35 u away from it - the base computer itself is more distance away, but parts of the base extend to be very close to the portal - so I would see it immediately when arrive through planet portal).

*Created a new save game.

*Cheated with save editor to get all glyphs (to be able to quickly enter correct planet address on first planet portal that I discovered and travel to correct planet).. That is btw the only cheat I used on the new (normal mode) save game.

I used planet portal to visit planet (where old savegame) bases are located.

And....

THE BASES ARE NOT THERE!!! I arrived on "empty" planet. No sign of my bases- there was not a trace of anything that I had built (AND UPLOADED).

The planet where I arrived was correct. I arrived at correct location. But where the bases should be, was just emtpy and untouched nature.

I am 100% certain I have the correct location. I looked significant landmarks on survival save where the bases have been built and also showing up. Then switched back to normal game - exact same spot, same nature, same trees and mountains and lakes..... but no base to be found.

New savegame that I wanted to travel and explore these bases with is a normal mode savegame (but, like said, built with a survival mode save game).

My questions are:

Can it be because my 2nd save game is normal mode and the save game I used to create the bases is survival mode, and this is the reason for why the bases are not showing up??

OR can it be because I constructed base parts very close to the planet portals (maybe 20u or 30u away from them - though I need to point out that the game allowed this during construction, I did not glitch build or cheat at all) and because it is "too close" to the portal then the whole base does not get uploaded/downloaded?

OR... the base upload function does not work at all??? so when I visit the exact same location from a new savegame it does not in fact download uploaded bases and therefore I can not see the constructed base that should be on that exact same location?

OR... I need to visit from a different (Steam) account altogether, to see the (other player/savegame) constructed bases? Perhaps I can not see my own bases from a new save game which is still from same Steam account/user, and it is in fact then working exactly as intended? (I mean, if I would instead visit my bases while playing a different Steam account, I would in fact see the bases)??

OR.. something else.. other ideas why I can not visit my own bases with a new save game??

again. I am 100% sure it is correct location. on survival mode save game (where I constructed the bases) I can easily see the bases from the planet portal. I also remember all the landmarks - mountains trees and lakes - but when I load my normal save game and visit THE EXACT SAME PLANET, PORTAL AND SPOT WITH THE SAME LANDMARKS/NATURE/TREES/LAKES etc... there are no base to be found... only the same trees, lakes, mountains are there.. but untouched nature with nothing constructed to be found anywhere.

Willing to help me check further?:

if someone is in Eissentam galaxy.. please do me a favor..

go to

4, 1, 15, 15, 16, 15, 4, 4, 9, 16, 16, 15

https://nomanssky.gamepedia.com/Glyph

or as I like to call these glyphs;

dinosaur,
gellyfish,
Y,
Y,
triangle,
Y,
gellyfish,
gellyfish,
insect with wings,
triangle,
triangle,
Y

and tell me if you see anything constructed when you arrive.

Base should be visible immediately when load up from arriving at the destination portal. it is a small hill very close to the portal. may have to turn to look behind your back and other side (back side) of the portal, but my base should be right there. Well visible.
The planet name should be "Garden of Eden" when you arrive - using those glyphs I just wrote.

Second base that I can not see myself AT ALL is in same system:

go to

2, 1, 15, 15, 16, 15, 4, 4, 9, 16, 16, 15

https://nomanssky.gamepedia.com/Glyph

or as I like to call these glyphs;

bird,
gellyfish,
Y,
Y,
triangle,
Y,
gellyfish,
gellyfish,
insect with wings,
triangle,
triangle,
Y

this base is NOT visible from where the planet portal is located. But you should arrive at planet named "Purity" and very close (well visible from portal on same side where also is located some salvageable boxes) should be a short range teleporter that takes you directly to my base - which is approx 900u distance from the planet portal.

the short range teleporter works on my own save game. but when I visit Purity (on 2nd savegame ) the short range teleport is not there, and neither is my base when I search further.

Any feedback is appreciated.
If you willing to enter the glypsh in a portal and make a quick visit, I appreciate your feedback here as well. I am curious to know if (from other account) able to see the bases I have constructed.

Final note: My bases are BIG. Garden of eden base is ≈2500 parts used. and Purity is ≈2000. (More or less). If you can't find/see them either, then there is something wrong with how the base computer uploads bases, or something else is not correct.

Basically, when arriving through planet portal at correct planet (Garden of Eden / Purity), should immediately (without having to move at all) be able to see the base itself (Eden), or signs of player construction (Purity/teleporter) which lead to the base.

From what I understand (I'm fairly new) you nailed in your 1st theory, bases built in survival won't show in normal and vice versa, hopefully someone can clarify that.

Geez if that is true that sucks-

I appreciate your feedback fellow traveller

I'm just remembering something I read in a post I skimmed over the other day of a similar nature, where somebodies friend could not see their base the reasoning was because it was done in survival but they were playing in normal.

Again it was quick read through so I may be remembering it wrong.

Long story short: 2 factors are important here:

- Your Account name in the game
- The HG servers must be online

You can see your account name over the credits / nanites / quicksilver info. and AFAIK you cannot change it. Another 'player' would not see the same thing you are seeing with your account name because of restrictions that you may put in place for the stuff you upload.

And if the HG servers are not online you are not going to see anything about other players, player bases etc. Also with another savegame you are not going to see your own uploads if the server is down (the fixed info is not in your new savegame, but in your other savegame!). It can happen that the servers are down for short periods, especially now with hard patching going on.

I see my own account name no matter if I play on 1st save file (survival) or 2nd (normal).

Are you saying it needs to be a different account name in order for me to be able to see "other player" bases???

Did not check the HG server status. Thanks for that lead also.

Thanks for feedback fellow traveller. This could then in fact be the reason. Perhaps I will make again a third save, this time in survival, and see if I can find my lost bases.

Though I will wait a few days, perhaps I get help from other fellow travellers who can visit my portals and help me figure this out so I dont need to play the 2-3 hours it takes to leave start planet/visit space anomaly/construct roamer with upgraded scanner/find monolith/find portal.

Edited my post above, sorry I was not finished yet...
To really see what other players see in the game: you need to start the game with another account name, go to a friend's computer for example.

Got it.

thanks for editing/finishing your post.

I hope someone with a survival game mode save and who has access to Eissentam galaxy can still visit portal (addresses in my top post) and confirm whether or not bases are visible. Would be a comfort to know the truth....

normal and survival exist in different universes. This is done so people playing the game can build and do other stuff on a level playing field with other players. Especially the case since resource collection and storage are completely different between the game modes. Building a big base in survival is far less of an accomplishment when your neighbor is playing on normal and can build circles around you. At least that's HG's take on it.

Thank you for adding to the untanglement of this mystery. I more and more start to suspect then that had I created my 2nd save game in survival mode also, I would have been able to already see my own bases when visiting the correct planets and portals.

I think I will in a few days do exactly this ( 3rd savegame in survival mode).

I still will wait a few days, and perhaps meanwhile some helpful traveller can visit those portals in Eissentam and give a quick reply here if in fact are able to see these bases of mine. (If get confirmed that can not see - I dont want to waste a few hours up to when can access portal on new save - this time is more valuably spent continuing exploring the universe on my main save :)

Ye each gamemode is separate. You cannot play with somebody in survival if you are in normal. Same goes with their discoveries and creations.

They are the same universe though, as in if you find a system naturally called "Fox" in survival, I could find that same system in normal but player changes will not be visible unless they are in the same gamemode.

Yep, traveled to my base location in Normal on a survival save and the system/planets were discovered by me in my other save, but no base. For fun, I built a replicate base in the exact same location. It was ideal since it had a base computer in the wild on the location.

Thank you 8Bit and Mr.Bufferlow. You have eased my mind. I will then create a third save (in survival) and visit.. I rly want to see how they look "from other player perspective".

Probably exactly the same.. but to verify..

Cheers & safe travels.

Update...

So I created a new save (survival mode this time, = same game mode as when I built my bases on other save game)

Got lucky again = Eissentam turned out to be my starting galaxy. So no need to worry about how to get to the correct galaxy at least.

I did the necessary stuff again (repair ship, get off planet, warp other system.. etc, until I found the space anomaly).

Cheated a bit to get resources needed to learn to build exocraft with upgraded scanner.

Cheated to learn all 16 glyphs.

Headed down to random planet, consrtucted exocraft with scanner upgrades to find portal.

Found the planet portal, entered glyphs for both planets I want to visit (Eden and Purity).

And... upon arriving at destination portal (both planets) NO BASES THERE!!!!

Just pure, untouched, unbuilt, nature. I was not able to see or find anything that I had constructed and uploaded on my first/main save file.

Any suggestions/ideas/knowledge of why I am unable to visit/see my own bases when go to the correct system/planet/exact same spot with second save file toon?
Aurelia Sep 11, 2019 @ 8:48pm
The gamemode doesn't seem to be the issue here, from what I can tell. I have a friend i play this with, who I had a portal to their own base, on a planet they claimed. They keep their base uploaded, but if i visit said place while they are not online, then the place is completely empty, save for my exocraft that i summoned with thier exocraft station. The last time i went there without them being online, it even removed their base from my portal listing, since "nothing there"
