Glad this wasnt left to die on the Vita like Bloodlines with the PSP

Unfortunately I cannot recommend this or any other Ubisoft game in good conscience. This is due to their always online intrusive DRM. When you purchase a Ubisoft game from Steam it installs the Ubisoft launcher which you then need to either create or login to a Ubisoft account, your game then gets permanently tied to that account meaning you need it to play your game, for a lot of games offline play does not work and the remember password doesn't seem to work for some games either meaning despite them being completely offline single player games. you cannot play them without an internet connection. When you purchase a ubisoft game through Steam, you don't get it on steam, you get it on Ubisoft, all you get on Steam is a shortcut. Because of this they can remove the game from your account whenever they want and they have proven themselves to be scummy enough to do this as they did it with The Crew. So even if you bought it from Steam, if they pull it from your Ubisoft account you cant play it because your license is tied to your Ubisoft account.

Since the game was so short, I guess I will give a run down in bullet points. Spoiler warning, as usual.

1. The beginning was super interesting and promised a lot, but then the awkward time skip and sudden change in area/plot was jarring and it took me like 3 whole sequences to get used to it.

2. Aveline literally has little to no personality. At first she did, but after a while, I got to know almost nothing about her. They had moments where they build character but it seems that she treats everything as a business transaction. Also the way she would interact with her step parents were confusing.

She has moments where she is witty, but other than that, you end up learning nothing about her unless you read around on the AC wiki or the notes in game. The time skips are probably what make this so confusing.

3. I literally thought the step mother had died mid way in the game. Turns out she is the main baddie! They only showcase her in the beginning and do a lot of time skips without her in it, so I had just assumed she had died of natural causes off screen. Then she pops up at the very end of the game.

4. Combat was super annoying in this game, sorry but it really was. I thought it would be more satisfying, again I play on computer, but the combat was the most annoying thing ever in this game.

5. The plot in general was very hard to follow, but it all somewhat ties together in the last few sequences.

6. A lot of big plot points seem too rushed, too easy, too obvious.

7. Never thought I would say this for an AC game but the music is so painfully average and sometimes there is no music at all.

8. The environment is personally not my thing, it's boring, dry, ugly and sometimes an eye sore with how dark and high contrast it is. Only time things look pretty is in a cave with rich vegetation.

9. Some mechanics (like the personas) are literally useless. You'll think you'll need it, but most of the time the game ends up changing your persona for you by force.

10. Conner Kenway is in this game for absolutely no reason, I get this was somewhat an over glorified DLC but he was in there for no reason, speaking vaguely and cautionary, or having some type of knowledge about something which makes no sense and jesus christ I hated AC 3 sorry.

Okay, well, I can't tell if this was a waste of time because the 8.9 hours I played was in the span of 5 months. Bye!
