Drawing on a map
G'day all,

I've just made the switch from SimCity to Cities Skylines. Using the Skyve, Harmony, etc MOD's. But I need a little help with a MOD I cannot find. Let me explain ...

In SimCity, I used to be able to draw directly on maps (using a MOD). This was very helpful for planning out my cities from the beginning. I'd layout networks, buildings, areas, parks, airports, etc. So as my city expanded and needed either larger buildings (school's etc) or new areas for RCI, I knew exactly where I would put what and had the room to do it.

Is there a MOD that allows drawing directly on the in-game map? I've tried a few MOD's already, but none let me plan by marking out units/cells.

Any help would be greatful,
John

I have not heard of a planner-like mod.

That being said, the Move It! mod makes it super easy to move things around without having to demolish existing roads or buildings. It can also be used to copy and paste whatever you want.

Collision is not an issue with this mod, nor with Anarchy-related mods, for that matter. Placements that would be impossible in the base game are easy with such mods.

Thanks Tsubame. I've got both of those. What I was hoping for was to be able to plan and layout my city before I build it.

There's no such mod. Best thing is to use 'planning roads'. These do not cost anything. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2496900851&searchtext=planning

MaxFX I'll buy you a beer!!!

That MOD is almost perfect. I'll give it a try tonight.

Still looking for one that will let me 'paint' the ground in the sizes of cells. Helps layout building.

But, thanks heaps MaxFX.

Thanks atelier,

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried Surface Painter, but it lacks the ability to to give a definite outline of what you have marked out.

Image Overlay Renewal 1.9.4 is about map making, It's not about drawing lines on maps to markout roads/buildings/etc in-game.

I'll keep looking, but I would have thought just a simple line drawing MOD that could draw 1, 2, or 3 cells in different colours would be available so people could layout the future development of their city and allow room for future items, like bigger train stations, etc.

Anyone with any other ideas?

Regards,
John

Depends how much painting of cells you want to do, but I use the paths to mark areas I want to reserve for stuff. I even have assets I've created in the shape of the base game airport and railway stations to help me plan things.

I guess you could even make zero cost versions of the paths like the zero cost roads in that 'Planning Roads' workshop item.

Thanks mbutton15, it looks like I'll need to use paths/roads to layout future development.

Strange thought, a city building simulation that has not way of surveying and laying out for future growth. To 'reflect' real life I would have thought that would be very obvious. But apparently not.

If I understand correctly, that produces a map of the current map being built?

I use this which lets me bring an image onto my map. I then trace bits I want. I often trace with trees and then hide the map and build over the trees.

Thank you ForesterSOF & mbutton15 for your repsonses.

I've found Planning Roads works well, and like mbutton15, I'm using tree lines to mark out areas.

@ForesterSOF, I was looking for a way to mark the map in-game, so my layout can be adjusted as needed.

Reagrds,
John
