Best POI base
I tend to take over POIs as bases in my games. Which pre-made POIs do you think are the best bases for challenging the hordes, without needing much modification by the players?

I'm leaning toward the cemetery poi myself, it already has an easily defensible brick wall around it.

I find settling on top of the small Pass N' Gas station to be a good choice. I like to clear out the interior and fill it to the brim with flagstone blocks, then make a maze with a bunch of doors that lead to the hatch that goes up top. I also make a structure around the hatch with an extra door and some bars to shoot through in case they get up the ladder. I line the sides of the building with wooden bars to keep spiders from climbing up and so I can shoot down on hordes. I keep all my valuables up top on the roof.

Big red firedept, big police station, prowling petes and burgers and fries. All of them only need touching up and you're good to go.

The taller it is the less stability. Look for wide but not to tall. They go straight for the stability. They've knocked me out of churches and towers of every kind. Just from my experience.

I like the Latham Hardware Store. Its easy to clear and is made of concrete. The walls are strong and easy to upgrade to reinforced concrete.

I picked a cave and it was fun trying to survive blood moon at x32. Most couldn't get up the mountain, but was fun picking them off. Its funny when they spawn from the top of the mountain, they just drop and fall to the foothill.

This church is the best starter base imo if you can find it in your world in the first 7 days.

I've made bases in Omalley's Grain and the fire house (red) with much success. I also like to have a separate 'base' for horde nights.

I don't need a lot of space for a single player base. But I want the strongest materials possible, and I like to be up off the ground. I also don't want to worry about sleepers. Accordingly, I find the concrete building remnants the best option among existing POIs. Since they tend to appear in town across the street from each other, I've also taken to making bridges to connect multiple of these remnants, mostly to open up places to escape if the primary site of the base is compromised.

Personally I almost never use POIs as bases, when I did I've upgraded and changed them A LOT, so I'm not the best person to give suggestions on this lol

But I did once use the cemetery as a starter base and it went wrong fast... the perimeter wall is too wide for one person and during BM I got attacked from all directions and at some point one of the sections of the wall went down and I barely survived.

I take any structure that is the closest thing to the trader, and I try my best to maintain its look and feel.

Zoe Salon is the perfect size, shape and height for a starter base IMHO.

Strong bones with many interior supports to limit the potential of collapse due to bomber zombies. (I build on the roof)

I really like the Working Stiff Store POI. It starts off already super fortified with a brick and concrete main structure and a large walled in courtyard in the back that is surrounded by four blocks high concrete walls. Its just about the right size (not too big and not too small) and has great areas already built in for crafting and storage. The roof is very accessible and there are lots of areas/spaces for farming. It also has an attached greenhouse/lawn and garden area that's good for growing plants. It's about 90% there when you find it and only requires minor repairs and modifications to convert to a fully functional base. The location is great too, its near a major junction in the road and close to town POIs, water sources, and just north of a trader on my map. I couldn't find an overhead picture of it online but found a YouTube video of a guy touring it. So far I am loving the space as my main base.

I spent over 60 days on the rooftop of a Higashi Skyscraper. Not so much that it's reinforcable, just that it takes a good while for zombies to get up there during horde nights and it makes it easy to emass resources for the next progressive stage.
