Dog question
Is there a regular dog? or just wolves, dire wolves and zombie dogs?

The reason I ask is I have zombies turned off so I shouldn't be getting zombie dogs. Yesterday while running home something I didn't see bit me in the butt while barking like a dog. I don't think either sort of wolf barks. This is in the Forrest biome. Trying to figure out what bit me as I didn't stick around to have a look.

wolf, dire wolf, and zombie dogs are it. those are all aggressive and animals, not 'zombies,' so they'll still spawn.

actually zombie dogs, per the wiki, are both Animal and Zombie, so might see them with Zombies turned off. but it could be a wolf if it was the forest biome.

The only canids in this game are coyotes, zombie dogs, wolves, and dire wolves. I’m not sure offhand which are removed when zombies are turned off. Sometimes you’ll draw the attention of an animal that spawned in a different, nearby biome.

I am guessing animal life that is not of the infected type would still spawn in, even with zombies turned off, because they don't fit that description. Someone can correct me if they like.

My daughter and grand daughter play with zombies off sometimes, and we still get wolves, but not dire wolves, zombie dogs or bears. I can't really remember if we ever saw a coyote, though.

That is what I thought no zombie dogs but yes to wolves and dire wolves. I just got confused because of the dog barking sound as opposed to a growl or howl.

probably anything that produces rotten flesh would be considered zombie?

I would think so

But someone said above (Khissi) that they don't seem to get bears or dire wolves when they have zombies turned off, so it seems to maybe cover more than just animals that drop rotten flesh.

Wolves, Dire Wolves and Coyotes seems to make the same sounds and Wolves do spawn in the forest a lot, i believe Coyotes are only desert.

But do they make the same sound as a barking dog? Not a howl or a growl this was an outright bark.

All the dog enemies pretty much make the same sounds. Wolves and Coyotes included.

Coyotes do have a bark sound.

The zombie dogs have their own set of sounds. Wolves (regular and dire) have another set. Coyotes share a handful of wolf sounds but the rest are separate.
