Super corn might earn its place as a late-game food and we'll probably get some other super foods as well (Bioluminescent mushrooms? Antibiotic blueberries? Corn ethanol?), but for now it's just an optional source of glue.
Mines are easy to craft, with exception of that duct tape. It is simply never enough. Unless you have other sources of glue - there is no chance you can have enough explosives to survive a decent horde night.
Mines and throwable explosives both require tons and tons of duct tape you won't be able to get any other way but batch-buying it off all traders and breaking up every single corpse, and still, it is not enough, because if you're explosive-oriented, you cannot really do close-up combats, and combat inside buildings risk both yourself and your possible loot.
