What kind of bullets do you use?
The ones that do the most damage? The ones that penetrate armor? Just the normal ones?
And in what situations?
Lately I have been doing the most damaging bullets because I usually go up against Zombies without armor, but I don't know how profitable it is to create these types of bullets.
The armor penetration + the ability to penetrate more armor seems like a very good combination against demolitioners, but maybe just making normal bullets and having the ability to penetrate armor is better (in terms of saving resources).

I’m thinking when I get that far, I should just keep two ranged weapons on my belt for horde night: one with HP bullets for most zombies, and a second one with AP rounds for demolishers and other armored zombies. I know you can change ammo types on the same weapon, but I think it’ll be less cumbersome in the heat of battle to switch belt slots. Then one may also be able to load out the mods/skills/perks that make each weapon the best at what they do.

I really like the layered model in this game, with different attacks prompting different counterattacks, as opposed to there being one best weapon or ammo that handles everything without parallel.

I am pretty sure, once you can make hollow point ammunition, this is the best overall because zeds and animals are soft targets, and HP ammo does the most damage to soft targets and it's cheaper to make in terms of materials, as compared to armor piercing.

EDIT...Correction. Most zeds and animals are soft targets.

I'll use two weapons, it seemed like a very good idea.
Thank you very much for your advice!

And another thanks for here!

You are welcome. I agree with the good Crater above also. For explosive ammo weapons, such as guns, it's better to keep multiple ones with that specific ammo, if you can and have enough of them, rather than switching out on the fly.

That can get you into trouble in some situations, unless maybe you have a bandolier mod also. That speeds up reloading a lot.

Since most zombies are not armored I use HP ammo mostly and switch to a different gun loaded with normal or AP ammo when a demo or rad soldier appears.

Once you can find the recipe for HP ammo, make that since it'll be the end all of ammo types in terms of what you'll be using 90% of the time.

I'm lazy. I don't like having to swap ammo types, or carry multiple guns with different ammo, so I mostly just use regular. There are several zombies that resist HP, and AP causes faster weapon degradation... Default ammo is far more common and inexpensive to craft or buy and it still gets the job done. Although I'll admit once demos show up I'll usually switch to a sniper with AP.

I just use shotgun ammo.

What zombies resist HP? You mean armored? HP always does more then the regular ammo right?

Yes, to non-armored or non-helmeted zombies. It does next to nothing to those.

Pretty sure this hardly even does any damage to soilder zeds. It sparks and bounces off. Shotgun ammo does not pierce armor.

Nah I kill them all the time with shotguns! Takes a few shots, but it works. In fact later in the game if you have a few boomstick levels you can often headpop them with 1 shot.

Yea, forgot about the perk boomstick. Hmmm...must have been something strange in my game once then, as I swear I heard ricochet noises and sparks flying when I sprayed one in the face with the gauge. :steamhappy:

But yea, you can kill them with the shotgun for sure. Thanks.

Now that you meantion it, I've heard/seen that too. But I can still typically kill them with 3 or less direct hits from a decent shotgun. I wonder if armor has a chance to deflect pellets? Doubt it, but I'll pay more attention next time.
