Possible fix for people struggling with FPS drops.
I've got a pretty good computer and was having FPS drops throughout the game; making it feel very rough. During a few large scale fights; namely Garuda, my FPS made the game borderline unplayable. I found a solution that's worked for me, hopefully it can help some of you out.

The issue was Super Resolution. The default setting was causing very large FPS drops; but disabling it made those drops even worse. Lowering my graphic settings didn't help either. However when I switched Super Resolution to "Legacy" it solved all my FPS issues. I've replayed both the fights I'd previously struggled to run and both worked flawlessly. Even bumping my settings back up to High hasn't caused any issues after changing back to Legacy.

Can't promise it will fix things but after a lot of trial and error this seems to have fixed my issues.

Bro! Absolute lifesaver. Sitting around 50fps now instead of 20

Pretty sure image quality is much worse, and that's why performance is much better.
It's FSR 1.0 right? That's awful.

Dude Legacy works!!!! Image quality is crap tho, that will do for now until they fix this

Can you guys easily repeat this problem?

If so, can you install the latest nightly build of Special K?

24.9.20 ======= + Add hook on sl.interposer.dll slInit (...) in order to override various Streamline configuration for enhanced compatibility with third-party overlays that do not have any Streamline compatibility measures. + Change Streamline initialization, when possible, to use DXGI Factory Proxy instead of vftable hooks to help fpsmon and other overlays not crash. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- + Disable attempts by a game to divert or silence Streamline debug output.

What I'm interested in is the third thing here. I've disabled the game's silencing of Streamline (used for super-resolution) debug output and Special K will log all of it to logs/game_output.log

I suspect that Streamline will have an answer for your problems.

Take SpecialK64.dll from this, name it dxgi.dll and launch the game. I'd love to see a copy of game_output.log when you are experiencing the stutter. I may be able to fix it.

lol thats not fps fix, it just lower image quality.

go to amd fsr 3 then upscalling to ultra performance. there you go MORE fps but quality are crap. it just the same thing.

Disabling Steam Overlay and EVERY Steam Window on my 2nd Monitor somehow fixed my FPS drops.

This does help and if they update to fix the performance you can always switch settings back.:ffxvi_joshua_px:

Bruh, you sure this is safe? I wouldn't even dare try something that does code injection all the while Denuvo is still actively deployed in the game.

Interesting though and I haven't heard of it so thanks for sharing!

Yeah FSR 1 is terrible. DLSS, XESS, and FSR2, do a hell lot more then FSR and the quailty shows.
Thats probably the reason they are seeing an increase in framerate

lol, yes. I'm very sure it's safe :)

I don't want to sound like I have a big head or something, but I'm well known for modding games to fix problems with them.

The code from that version's now live in the stable release for all users.

If that's any less sketchy to you.

starfield suffered from this on my system as well

not this game but yes if its on and crap itself turn it off..

Specs? FSR3 uses additional VRAM over having it disabled. FSR1 like DLSS does not use additional VRAM.

Can confirm this "Work-around". 10/10! (Image quality is a bit worse but atleast the game is playable)

Just for reference there are 2 main issues with FPS at the moment that i can see. the first is a reproducible frame rate "Cap" that occurs when switching eikons. This is fixed by enabling razer syanpse and using the FF16 chroma app. (Even if you dont have a razer mouse).

The second is on certain GPUs the game just has god awful frame rate all the time. But Notably your GPU is at a constant 80-100% usage. This seems to be worked-around by changing your Dynamic resolution to "Legacy".

Theres also a 3rd issue Ive noticed with boarder-less windowed mode that Ive made a separate topic about. but not seen anyone else talk about it soo maybe something just wierd with my setup

I have used special K with the latest stable build and managed to replicate the fps drops and stutters, let me know where can I send you the log.
