Can I use my Smart phone as a VR? (LG G3)
The smart phone (at least for android) has a VR application. Is there anyway i can connect my phone to steam on my computer and use my phone as a VR?

This will save hundreds of dollars! please if anybody knows a way let us know!

As far as I know that like you try connect a sony PS4 VR to an PC. Well in the case the connectors work out it may work but I don't think so as the software is a other thing.

VR isn't soooo far.

"use my phone as a VR" i chuckled, but no you can't, but you might be able to download the app and buy a cheap plastic carboard kinda headset for your phone !

I know about the google card board. but my main concern is if i can connect my SMART phone to my computer and have my computer recognize it as a VR device. but Thank you for your response.
Bit late the party here - but - actually yes you can. You want to get an app called TrinusVR. Also you'll want a plastic VR headset that fits this phone (I belive LG actually make one). You'll need to tether your phone to your PC via USB to improve speed and quality. I've done this, play GZ3Doom quite a bit. Got a few Oculus Rift apps to work as well by installing the Oculus runtime and running it in debug mode (but its hit and miss). Theortically should be able to run Steam VR games as well if I can get a null driver working. Uses the gyro in your phone for tracking, pretty good responce with low latency (on the G3 at least). Unfortunatly Trinus maps to mouse commands - so unless your app supports mouselook, you wont be able to track. People often laugh at people trying to do this on a phone - but it does work. It's not a joke and it is a viable solution. Don't mock it till you try it.

It doesn't look like it's going to get enough functionality for Steam
Well ProntoVR, thats just not true. I can play the majority of FPS games on Steam in full VR on an LG G3 Google Cardboard rig using Trinus VR and TriDef 3D. Not too far off getting Steam VR to work as well. In terms of quality its better than a DK1 but not quite as good as a DK2. Head tracking is quite good, not too much lag. I love playing Elite Dangerous on this setup too.

Missed the bloomin postman earlier today so will have to wait until tomorrow to pick up my Unofficial Cardboard 2.0 Plus and try all this out.

Think my PC is going to struggle with it but I'm building a new rig next month specifically for VR gaming. Am having to do it in two parts, getting the main rig bought and put together next month and will be using the iGPU on the i7 6700K until I can afford to get a high end GPU in May next year, as things stand right now I'm leaning towards a Radeon R9 Fury X but Pascal may change my mind if NVidia finally pull their fingers out and implement AS at the hardware level and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg lol

My current rig can play Skyrim at the highest settings at 1080p between 25 and 45fps so hopefully it'll handle VR okayish until I put my new rig together.
So arv, here is a quick guide. Google for and download Trinus VR (server). Then go onto Google Play Store on your phone and get the lite version of Trinus VR (client). Don't purchase Trinus until you know it'll work for you. Given your rig, I'd reccomend you download the demo version of TriDef as well.

Make sure your phone is on your wireless network, disable mobile data, connect your phone to your PC via USB, then enable USB tethering on your phone. On your phone load up Trinus and switch it on. On your PC, load up Trius and click on the "gears" icon - this'll bring up the options - switch it to Advanced mode.

The best settings to start out with are: in the Main Tab -
Head Mount Model = Default_Any,
Image Quality = High,
Capture Mode = Compatable,
Sensor Output = Mouse.

In the Video Tab you'll find an option called Fake 3D, if you have a game running in SBS (side by side) 3D, switch this to Disabled. If you havn't, enable it. Now click on the triangle "on" button. Hopefully it should all work and you'll be tethered.

Load up your native SBS app or TriDef. TriDef will enable "most" DX games to run in SBS 3D. You'll need to run your software in windowed mode, so make sure you enable that from the settings in your game. Trinus works best at 720p and below. Click on the windowed game and it should stream directly to your phone. You should also notice that moving your phone will also move your mouse. Any game with mouse look will track. Ideally you want to use a gamepad to controll your game, mouse and keyboard will be a little tricky when you have the headset on. Go ahead and mount your phone into your VR headset and enjoy VR. You'll find that you'll almost certanly need to fiddle with the settings to get everything "right".

GLHF.

PS - the Dev for Trinus is really approachable.
PPS - My rig is awful, yet I can get a nice VR experience on many games. Portal runs really nicely via TriDef. Elite Dangerous is amazing and GZ3Doom (google it) is great too (set it to SBS 3D in the console with the command VR_MODE 3)

This is amazing thank you guys!! I have yet to try it due to many failed attempts to terrible youtube vdeos XD but i do have 1 question...Do i need the magnet switch on the google card baord? bcause i have lost it....
You don't need a magnet for tethered VR, no. The only purpose of the manget is for a few native Android VR apps and even then most native Android VR apps will respond to a bluetooth controller command. If you have any problems, let me know ;)

When i try to enable usb tethering is says "Network is unavalable. Try again." How do I fix this???
Is Trinus VR reporting this on the PC or Phone. Are you sure USB Tethering is enabled on the G3? Settings > Tethering & Networks > USB Tethering = On. If you load up a web browser on your PC can you connect to any website?

If, and ONLY if, the above didn't work and you cant load up a web browser on your PC... Follow these instructions... http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/fix-usb-tethering-lags-freezes-windows-t3039183 I had to do this with my LG G3 on Windows 10. If you get a "can't install unsigned driver" error - follow these instructions http://www.howtogeek.com/167723/how-to-disable-driver-signature-verification-on-64-bit-windows-8.1-so-that-you-can-install-unsigned-drivers/ BE CAREFUL
