Low GPU and max out usage in VR GAMING
okay in VR gaming and noticing low gpu usage, vram max out and 7950x is mainly around 30%
My build.
7950x
rtx 3080 10gb
ddr5 at 4800mhz ( Expo causes bluescreen after the bio been updated)
m.2d 990 pro

VR headset i used is
Vive Pro 2
Psvr2.

the psvr2 runs alot better than the vive pro 2. hard to explain what vive pro 2 does but it freezes image and textures is spiked all over the place, however psvr2 just has lag stutters. i also notice often the gpu usage drop a lot and its not running full power. around 200-300w and max is 334watt in gaming.

what is the issue here ? i need bigger vram card or ? if 10gb can only run 50% of the vr resolution stable then ill at least need a 24gb model :( i do not want a 4090 or 5090 lol

What are your render resolution in pixels? The VP2 resolution could be anything if you put Vive Console in auto mode.

Hi @bob Loblaw. my vive pro 2 resolution was around 1200x1200 per eye. however it still lag crazy and some games i would have to go down to 800x800 to function but for the psvr2 its 1000x1020 run much better.

funny thing with VP2 is that it would stutter in loading screen on Half life Alyx

thank you for your reply.

My VP2 gets 90HZ in most vr games at 4x that res (2400x2400) on a 3060ti (8gb). Something is wrong, and it's not your amount of vram. Open the Advanced Frame Timing graph and see if the problem is with the CPU or the GPU. Then

Check SteamVR support wizard https://help.steampowered.com/en/wizard/HelpWithGame/?appid=250820

If no answer there, look over this for ideas:

Prior confirmed causes of stutter in the forums:
1) Resolution set too high

Thank you so much. After 2 years of trying to find the problem i have not found anything to make sense of it. And again thank you, I’ll go though this.

okay so i may have found the culprit. i disable bunch of apps such as MSI after Burner, Display fusion, Gigabyte control center, wallpaper engine. i think the gigabyte or display fusion was the problem because i saw some improvements and that gpu usage was nearly at 100% then i discover that FPSvr memory reading is not correct because the hardware monitor shows that gpu memory is at 100%. i notice that my reprojection ratio was at 20% and did bit digging that motion smoothing need to be turn of and went down to 0.1%

now i am running steady 90fps in skyrim at 100% resolution

thanks again
