Extreme stuttering in all titles with HTC Vive Cosmo Elite
A couple of weeks ago everything was running fine with my VR headset. Something has changed since, and it's not my setup. I don't know if it's a Window update or a Steam VR update or what but every title has been experiencing extreme stuttering in all titles. All VR games are completely unplayable in the headset.

I've tried all the usual troubleshooting steps over the past few hours and have had no luck.

Anyone else experiencing this?

one guy a while back had this, his resolution somehow had been cranked up.

I'm getting this too with a Valve Index. Was perfectly fine a few weeks ago and now constant pink lines in the framertime graph (display error.) It's worse at higher refresh rates and nearly goes away completely at 80hz. WTF IS THIS

Start with #12 if you have win 11:
Prior confirmed causes of stutter in the forums:
1) Resolution set too high
2) Lighting apps like Asus Aura, Corsair iCUE, Gigabyte RGB Fusion, TT RGB Plus
3) GPU monitoring apps like Afterburner, Aorus Edge View (once a second one-frame stutter) ( https://steamcommunity.com/app/250820/discussions/2/3381662461615185982/?tscn=1662951659 ),
4) NVMe drive stealing bandwidth from the GPU's PCIE bus ( https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/11/1815422173043032484/ )
5) PCI-e 4.0 and USB conflict (also causes intermittent tracking loss) (change BIOS to use PCI-e 3.0 protocol)
6) Rift S + open OVR Advanced Settings ( https://steamcommunity.com/app/250820/discussions/0/3112519935867753855/ )
7) This huge thread on amd cards/drivers/chaperone/motion smoothing, etc, possible causes AMD ReLive for VR (Wireless), High Precision Event Timer, ( https://steamcommunity.com/app/250820/discussions/0/2970650017901586073/ )
8) minimize game desktop window ( https://steamcommunity.com/app/250820/discussions/2/3058490685012602825/ )
9) Windows 11 wrong window focus (try the game window or SteamVR control panel)
10) Wrong OpenXR runtime setting (SteamVR, Oculus, WMR) (oculus example https://steamcommunity.com/app/250820/discussions/2/6406956248970801032/ )
11) Multiple monitors at different refresh rates. Test with just one, at 60. ( https://steamcommunity.com/app/250820/discussions/0/6406956248963113090/ )
12) Windows 11 stop HolographicsShell ( https://steamcommunity.com/app/250820/discussions/0/3396302157195505846/?tscn=1667747866 )

The solution for me was to opt out of SteamVR Beta. 1.25.1 beta has Bus Usage monitoring for Nvidia cards and this is causing massive stuttering. See video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnQPv80MgKI

Going back to stable 1.24.6 version completely solved the problem for me. No more constant stuttering.

Thank you! The stuttering was driving me insane! Glad the problem's identified. Are they gonna fix this when it's out?

I was having some issue with Bonelab when using 1.24.6 SteamVR, where I couldn't get past the loading screen, only a completely dark background with a weird detached player body behind me. I opted in to the beta and somehow it's fixed the issue. I was finally able to play but at the same time this crazy micro stutter happens, even when it's idle and not playing anything.

Hopefully the stutter would get fixed soon!

It's possible I may have resolved the problem. I finally was able to play without the stuttering/choppyness.

I'm not exactly sure which setting did it.

In the Windows 11 Settings, I navigated to System -> Display -> Graphics -> Default graphics settings and I disabled the following:

* Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling
* Variable refresh rate
* Optimisations for windows games
* Auto HDR

I'm sure I had done this before, but perhaps not all at the same time.
