Is there a way to increase sharpness?
I would like to increase sharpness. Some games have ingame sliders (like sw squadrons) that are truly amazing and some games do not. But I wonder if there is a possiblity to manipulate this from outside the game.

I'm not talking about SS or increasing the resolution in the steamvr video settings. Those settings only get rid of jaggies, but do not increase the sharpness of the image.

Also the nvidia sharpness setting does not seem to apply to vr games. I read that RTX cards have such an option for VR, but unfortunately I do not own one.

Anyone with experience on this subject?

Artificial sharpening gives me headaches in flat screen games. I could only imagine what it would be like in VR.

What headset do you have? While software can fix a lot of things, it cannot fix a low resolution screen or blur from the lenses.

Have you made sure that you've adjusted the headset properly? A common mistake that people make is putting the headset on improperly, so they are not looking through the "sweet spot".

I have a Vive Cosmos with a 2880 x 1700 combined pixel resolution. Everything is set up correctly. Other VR games like HL alyx and SW squadrons are as sharp as they can be.

There some games that look blurry by default, hence the reason of this post.

If it is only certain games, then you are looking at graphical fidelity, which then that is just the way it is.

Unless the developer of those games decides to increase visual fidelity of their game, there isn't really anything you can do.

That is what I was afraid of. In any case I'll take it as it is. Thx for the feedback.

Not sure what headset you have, but the fresnel lenses in most headsets are notorious for having poor sharpness, especially off center. If you have a Vive, you could do a GearVR lens mod which will dramatically improve sharpness.

Nothing wrong with the headset. Read the previous replies.

There may be nothing "wrong" with the headset, but the fresnel lenses are crap, and only produce a "sharp" image in the center. It's basically impossible to read small text that is not directly in front of you, and they suffer from terrible "god rays". See this video to better understand what I mean: https://youtu.be/2ckPBhIlkX0?t=239

Ok thanks. But it is just that specific games are blurry. Just a crappy game engine they use.

I have a gear VR lying around that I no longer use. But my current headset still has 18 months of warranty left, so I'll not tinker with it yet.

Go into SteamVR settings and try setting the resolution override to 200% or something. It'll probably be too demanding to actually play games at that resolution but you'll at least be able to narrow down what the problem is, resolution too low or some kind of game bug.

Possibly the game is detecting that your hardware isn't powerful enough to run at full resolution and is automatically dialing it back a bit, lowering sharpness in the process.

Another possibility, see if the game has anti-aliasing options. When VR was very young, some developers relied on aggressive shader-based anti-aliasing, which leads to a blurry but less pixelated image. On low PPI screens such as original Vive or Rift, this was often preferable. Your headset is probably high enough resolution you may instead get a more pleasing image with no anti-aliasing at all rather than shader-based anti-aliasing (FXAA etc).
