SteamVR

Steam VR keeps closing when i open it
Just recently purchased the HTC VIVE. All the software has been installed and the htc has been set up. Problem is i cant open Steam VR without it closing so i cant tell if it has detect the VIVE and all of its components. i wanted to set the rest of the vive up such as the boundaries and floor and all that good stuff.
I have uninstalled steam vr and reinstalled steam vr with no avail. I have no idea whyy its doing this. I NEED HELP ASAP. is it because i installed the vive software to a different drive?? i just dont see how or what is causing steam vr to not open

Try to disable your anti virus, then reinstall SteamVR and see if that maybe helps?

What anti-virus your using? also did you try to restart the PC and try again?

I've disabled my anti virus and i've restarted my computer multiple times and swithced the usb to multiple ports and im still not getting anywhere. I've uninstalled and restalled the vr multiple times and restarted the headset as well but still just keep getting an error 308. I can't seem to find a solution anywhere.

I figured out how to FIX it!!!! to anyone else having the problem. go to your C drive (where your OS is installed.) Go to program files (x86 i bellieve) find a folder called OpenVR. delete what you find in it. I swear ON EVERYTHING that fixed it for me. I believe it was some sort of directory bug when you have more than one drive such as an SSD and a Harddrive

Delete the openvr.vrpath file in [your user file]/AppData/Local/openvr

I hade the same issue but the above solution did not help for me what did help is the folowing below.

First of all unplug your VR headset from your pc hdmi and usb.

Restart steam in administrator mode, run steam vr "for me steam vr did not start without starting steam in administrator mode".

Go to Steam VR settings, go to developer scroll down to "Remove all steamvr usb devices" ( Make sure your VR headset is unplugged from your pc).

Now close your steamvr than Plug your vr headset back in to your pc, restart your steam vr and you are normaly good to go "atleast this worked for me"
